The mission of Hidden Valley 4-H Camp is to provide youth with a fun, residential camp experience under the guidance of positive role models that emphasize community building, positive social interactions, environmental awareness, and skill building.
The camp Nurse (Health Supervisor) is needed to respond to emergencies and carry out health and safety programs throughout the summer. The Nurse (Health Supervisor) is required to live on camp property while camp is in session.

    

Duration: *Our Health Manager may apply for one week or for multiple weeks. Our weeks are as follows*

Week 1:  July 7th – 12th

Week 2:  July 14th – 19th  

Week 3:  July 21st – 26th  

Week 4:  July 28th – August 2nd  

Week 5:  August 4th – 9th  

Week 6:  August 9th – 13th  

The summer camp season includes mandatory camp staff training that is available online for camp health management staff. The Nurse position begins on Sunday at 11:00 am and ends at 6:00 pm on Friday. It includes the health check for all campers upon arrival and the review of health paperwork.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Follow the New York State Department of Health Safety plan & ACA guidelines for camp staff and campers

    • Assist in the implementation and documentation of a written plan

      • Follow and assist in implementing the Communicable Disease Plan in cooperation with Schuyler County Public Health when necessary.

  • Review all camper health records before the camper arrives at camp.

    • Prepare special health needs alerts and ensure that appropriate staff is aware of camper-specific needs, i.e., bedwetting, all allergies, and camper medication schedule.

    • Follow-up with prescribing medical professional when questions or concerns arise over medication (prescription or over the counter)

    • Keep in contact with the parent over health issues as appropriate

  • Assist the Camp team with a camper who is homesick

  • Accept and record all medications on arrival day from parent and return medications to parent on pick up day of camper

    • Keep all medications locked in the Health Director’s office

    • Follow medication disposal plan for any medication not picked up by the parent

  • Record and report all admissions of the infirmary

  • Live on-site Sunday afternoon through Friday afternoon

  • Administer and record all medications and treatments according to the physician’s orders

  • Check on first aid kits for emergency use by all camp staff

    • Re-stock kits with missing supplies

  • Physically assess all camper’s health status upon arrival at camp

    • Train Camp Counselor Staff to perform health checks in privacy upon cabin check-in.

  • Maintain all records of camper and staff (hospital visits, Doctor visits, medication, injuries, dietary habits)

  • Assist in the training of staff on all health and safety procedures

  • Support and embrace diversity in all interactions with campers, other staff members, volunteers, and parents.

  • Other duties may be assigned as required

Qualifications

  • 21 years of age or older

  • Licensed Practical Nurse, Registered Nurse, Physician’s Assistant, or Medical Doctor and licensed to practice in the State of New York

  • Current First Aid, Responding to Emergencies (RTE) & CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification

  • Experience working with youth

  • Ability to communicate effectively with Camp Director, the entire camp staff, campers, and camp families

  • Incorporates Teamwork and Flexibility into their daily work style

  • Ability to get to remote locations on the camp property over rough terrain.

POSITION DETAILS:

This is a full time, (TEMPORARY) exempt position.

Salary and Benefit Details

The rate of pay will be $1000.00 per week. (Rate will be reduced for any time scheduled but not worked during the period) The pay rate is commensurate with experience, certifications, responsibilities, and availability. Benefits are not available for this position.
