Under the supervision of the Director of Student Governments, Auxiliaries, and Services, the AS Graphic Studio Creative Manager provides graphic design services for 50+ elected and appointed officials to the Associated Students Government, UC San Diego campus departments, faculty, staff, and students. Works closely with THE Associated Students Chief Communications Officer and Vice President of Services and Enterprises to meet design and marketing needs of A.S.

The A.S. Graphic Studio Creative Manager leads and participates in the day to day activities of the ASGS to include providing work direction and training to staff (including professional staff designers and student designers, webmaster, public relations coordinators, and marketing interns), scheduling, advising, client and vendor relations, customer service, fiscal management, marketing, equipment purchase and maintenance, technical troubleshooting, software and subscription management, graphic design, and event management.

The AS Graphic Studio Creative Manager meets with clients to understand business and project needs, assesses client briefs and assigns designers to projects, edits and reviews designs, meets with team members for feedback, creates and implements deadlines, project goals, expectations, and workflow to produce final product to clients.

The AS Graphic Studio Creative Manager provides graphic design and marketing services to include branding, print, digital and web-based graphics, social media, copywriting, and editing. Works in a fast-paced environment with strong design and technical skills on the Macintosh platform with Adobe Creative Suite. This position will also oversee the public relations branch of ASUCSD ensuring the marketing coordination for ASUCSD (social media, branding, communications) is in line with the organization’s needs and its communication is streamlined in partnership with Student Life.

The position oversees Triton Outfitters, Associated Students’ student-run apparel and promotional products store and its custom merchandise division, Made TO Order. Meets with Triton Outfitters executive leadership team on a weekly basis and with sales associates on a bi-weekly basis. Provides assistance and advising to the executive team on daily operations to include inventory management, supplies, sales goals, budgeting, employee training, timekeeping, leadership training, client and vendor relations, licensing, customer service, branding, marketing, public relations, social media, design, development, production, and event planning. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices, marketing, and organizational policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

The AS Graphic Studio Creative Manager is responsible for the management of office space, equipment and supplies to include electric cart rentals and maintenance, large format printer, photo booth, promotional product inventory, production, and storage.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and produce high-quality publications. Knowledge of the publication process with proven ability to develop and implement production schedules and establish priorities.

  • Working knowledge of marketing principles. Demonstrated experience in providing graphic solutions to design problems/projects appropriate to audience/budget/timeframe requirements. Related ability to apply appropriate marketing concepts to publication development.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Advanced technical skill and knowledge to utilize Macintosh hardware and related publishing software-InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, among others-to produce publications.

  • Ability to handle small to large multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to organize projects and workflow to produce publications in a deadline-determined working environment. Ability to complete design requirements within project budget/cost limitations.

  • Strong skills in collaboration to best meet project goals and objectives of clients.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and follow direction/input from supervisory/editorial/support staff members and clients to complete projects as prescribed

  • Knowledge of basic web development, UI/UX concepts and trends.

  • Time and project management skills to effectively establish priorities and meet competing deadlines.

  • Front end web development skills. Knowledge of UI/UX, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Ability to work with a CMS and ecommerce website.

  • Strong skills in originating and maintaining databases for desktop publishing and image storage.

  • Strong skills to effectively produce visual materials that meet and satisfy the needs of the client. Demonstrated understanding of design concepts with ability to produce camera-ready art for design and production of a range of publications, including a mutli-color, multi-page publications.

  • Strong skills in interpersonal communications to interact effectively with a variety of clients, support staff and vendors.

  • Working knowledge of marketing principles. Demonstrated ability to provide graphic solutions to design problems/projects appropriate to audience/budget/timeframe requirements. Related ability to apply appropriate marketing concepts to publication development.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to research, analyze, recommend, communicate and implement solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to follow UC San Diego policies and procedures with regard to the use of university facilities, equipment and supplies.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in determining the need for graphic design and publication by interpreting textual content and concepts in a variety of print and multimedia projects.

  • Must pass a background check.

  • Mandated Reporter: This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $61,800 – $108,000 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $29.60 – $51.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
