Job description
The Support Worker – Psychosocial Services helps people living with severe mental illness in Western Sydney to access short-term care to improve their well-being. Together, they develop customised care plans and provide support in individual and group sessions. The Support Worker assist client in their NDIS applications and provide individualised psychosocial support.
This role will also establish links with indigenous communities and individuals and identify barriers and solutions for local indigenous communities and individuals

- Full-time contract – 38 hours per week in Oatlands
- SCHADS Level 3 from $36 per hour + Generous Salary packaging benefits up to $18,550 (pay less tax) and Super
Essential Criteria:
- This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorized under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977.
- Provide evidence of Aboriginal identity, and be able to demonstrate the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people and local communities
- Experience working with consumers with severe and persistent mental health illness
- The ability to engage, make and maintain new and existing connections to indigenous communities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dates for celebration and memorial.
- Knowledge of government policies and practices and the ongoing impact of colonisation on indigenous people and communities.
- Understanding of the Principles of Recovery-Orientated Mental Health Practice
- Working knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) including submitting applications
- Ability to provide individualised psychosocial support to people living with severe and persistent mental illness
- A current full driver’s license and First Aid Certificate
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Community Services, Mental Health or related field
