Under the supervision of the TRIO Student Support Services Project Director, the Part-Time Academic Counselor/Coordinator will provide program participants comprehensive academic, career and financial advising and other educational and social support to ensure participants successfully graduate with their bachelor’s degree.
Work Hours will be scheduled between Monday – Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM.?
* Please be aware that funding for this position is awarded through a Grant/Contract over a specified period. Employment for this position beyond current Grant/Contract funding is contingent upon continued funding. - Essential Duties

The essential functions of the Part-Time Academic Counselor/Coordinator include but are not limited to:
- Provide regular academic, financial and career advising to an assigned caseload of TRIO SSS participants.
- Provide educational support services to participants that recognize the academic and social needs of low-income, first generation and disabled students to increase retention and graduation rates in these populations.
- Provide participants assistance in researching and completing financial aid and scholarship applications for graduate programs as well as completing admission requirements.
- Provide student community building services and activities to all TRIO SSS participants to ensure students have a community of first-generation peers to improve their sense of belonging at CSUF.
- Design, implement, and facilitate in-person and virtual student success workshops throughout the year.
- Create and maintain regular program communication with students regarding regular events, current student university updates and other program activities.
- Assist in creating and maintaining content for all TRIO SSS media platforms.
- Maintain regular records documenting program services.
- Assist in SSS programming to benefit SSS knowledge of CSUF resources, graduate school, cultural competencies, social justice and other student enrichment activities.
- Perform other duties related to the goals and objectives of the SSS Program and/or the Division of Student Affairs and the CSUF Strategic Plan as assigned by the Project Director.
- Qualifications

- Training and experience advising students in a higher education retention program.
- Knowledge of and experience with the issues of first generation, low-income and disabled college students, and those of diverse populations.
- Must be able to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with university faculty and staff.
- Proficiency with social media as used for SSS program promotion and communication.
- Proficiency with social media as used for SSS program promotion and communication.
- Must be proficient in working with typical office and student database technology.
EDUCATION:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Counseling, Education or related fields.

Prolonged sitting in front of computer. Walking, talking, hearing, pulling, bending, may carry 10-15 pounds of objects/material, not exposed to extreme noise level, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, taste or smell.
