  • Part- time (0.5FTE) 1-year fixed term, Academic Level A, $83,454 – $112,462 Base Salary + 17% Superannuation + Leave Loading

About the opportunity

As the Academic Facilitator you will work with senior academics to support education programs and the teaching, learning and research efforts of the National Centre of Cultural Competence (NCCC), DVC Indigenous Strategy and Services.

The NCCC was established to ‘inform, shape and promote local, national and global cultural competence narratives, action and capability.’ The NCCC makes a specific contribution to the University’s efforts to improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation and outcomes in higher education by increasing the capacity of the University of Sydney and the Australian higher education sector more generally to design, implement and evaluate culturally competent higher education and to graduate culturally competent Australians able to contribute to social, cultural, political and economic development in an increasingly diverse and globally connected community. The NCCC also embraces the implications of cultural competence for culturally and linguistically diverse communities and in doing so the NCCC aims to make a substantial contribution to building the cultural capabilities of our society.

In this important role you will contribute to a range of activities including:

  • Teaching and facilitation in NCCC education programs including workshops, online courses and other programs
  • Contributing to a positive workplace culture in which diversity of thought, contribution, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes are valued and enabled
  • Contributing to the strategic goals of the University to embed cultural competence into curriculum and provide cultural competence education and training University staff and students
  • Engagement beyond the University by developing profile through conferences, seminars and outreach activities

About you

  • A PhD or progression towards a PhD
  • Experience in facilitating workshops in cultural competence for a variety of educational settings
  • Experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by teaching in a variety of settings
  • An understanding of cultural competence and commitment to Aboriginal cultures and society and demonstrated superior experience working and communicating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and racially marginalised people, government, industry and civil society
  • A developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary pedagogical practice and design
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with a variety of matters
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and highly organised with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For a continuing position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
