The Office of Diversity and Inclusion seeks a Program Assistant to provide academic and administrative support services for Upward Bound-Columbus, a federally-funded educational opportunity program for college bound high school students.

Responsibilities and Functions:

Under supervision of the Director, the Program Assistant counsels college bound high school students regarding the preparation and steps needed to enroll in and graduate from a college or university;

Assists the Director in recruitment procedures; Provide information about specific courses and course sequences to high school students; Counsel students regarding long-range goals and provide information on the process of completing their college applications; Aid in the selection and

hiring process for consultants to serve as teachers in the following areas: Math, Science, Literature & Composition, Foreign Language, Computer Science, Art, and Music; Assist with the coordination and implementation of the summer institute; Assists staff with technical aspects of advising and maintain records for students; Assist with program evaluations; Serve as ombudsman for complaints and problems involving decisions regarding Upward Bound courses and placement; Assist program in obtaining student academic records; Assist in analyzing student records for completion of a college prep high school curriculum; Assist with the completion of program APR (Annual Performance Report);

Assist in the preparation and completion of the Upward Bound grant proposal; Coordinate and implement volunteer mentoring and tutoring component; Coordinate various aspects of student activities, and participate in field trips, college visits and summer college excursions.

The Program Assistant performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of assigned areas of responsibility and is responsible for initiating payments to students, vendors, contractors, staff, and consultants; Supports leaders with business travel needs, expense reports, payables submissions, calendaring and meeting arrangements.  Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Department, Division, and University goals and objectives.
 

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in education/counseling/social work or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience; one to three years of direct work experience in TRiO and/or the target population; strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; at least one year of experience program planning, lesson planning, and/or program management.  

Proficiency in Word and Excel, willingness to learn new software and processes to support business operations of the unit.

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; excellent time-management and organizational skills; Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities; work independently and as a team member, and collaborate with campus and community partners.

Desired Qualifications:
Ability to counsel prospective college students; experience providing counseling services to minoritized populations in a high school, adult education, or higher education setting.; experience working w/ low income, underrepresented populations; experience designing and evaluating assessment surveys and instruments. Knowledge of record-keeping, budgets, purchasing, and accounts payable..Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends for program activities as well as be available to participate in field trips, college visits and summer college excursions.

Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this job profile is $18.61 – 24.81 The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
