We are looking for someone with a love of wildlife and a passion for helping others to enjoy
it. The role will help us bring nature to people in Glasgow and surrounding urban areas,
ensuring that everyone has the change to benefit – close to where they live and by visiting
nearby RSPB nature reserves. We recognise that access to nature is not equal. In this role you
will design and deliver activities and events that are appealing and meet the needs of people
who find accessing nature more challenging.

Nature is under threat more than ever before, and we need people of all ages and backgrounds to
take action to protect it. This post will be part of our Giving Nature a Home Glasgow team who
have been working across the city since 2013, supporting people to develop a love of nature and
protect it.

Recently, we have started working with a wider range of groups and organisations to create new
opportunities for more people to enjoy nature, especially those who face cultural, financial
and accessibility barriers to doing so. This role will build on our existing work, as well as
provide an exciting opportunity to develop new ideas and ways to bring people and nature closer
together. This will involve working directly with communities in Glasgow and working with
colleagues at RSPB Lochwinnoch nature reserve and other sites to understand and overcome the
barriers experienced by some people when accessing our reserves.

This role will be responsible for managing volunteers, engaging, and forming
relationships with new targeted groups, designing and delivering workshops and events tailored
to these new audiences and their needs, representing RSPB and our values. The role will be
supported by the GNAHG Project Manager, the GNAH team in Glasgow and Edinburgh, and by
colleagues at RSPB Lochwinnoch and other nature reserves.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Experience of working with a diverse range of groups and communities including those with
disabilities, additional support needs and from a range of cultural backgrounds.
  • Good basic knowledge of UK wildlife, habitats, and species
  • Good Interpersonal skills.
  • An excellent verbal communicator able to communicate RSPB messages to a wide range of
    audiences.
  • An ability to produce clear written communications & reports and deliver presentations.
  • An ability to build & maintain partnerships.
  • Recruiting and managing volunteers
  • Proven time management & organisational skills.
  • Working with project teams & stakeholders.
  • Competent IT user (e.g., MS packages, Outlook etc).

Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:

  • Good local knowledge of Glasgow.
  • Experience/ interest in biological recording and gardening for wildlife

This is a Fixed-Term Full time role ending in March 2026.

The RSPB reserves the right to extend or make this role permanent without further
advertising dependent on business needs at the end of the contract term.

Interviews will be held on Wednesday the 26th June 2024. For further
information please contact [email protected].

As part of this application process you will be asked to complete an application form including
evidence on how you meet the skills, knowledge, and experience listed above.

This role will require completion of a PVG in addition to the standard pre-employment
checks.

We are committed to developing an inclusive and diverse RSPB, in which everyone
feels supported, valued, and able to be their full selves. To achieve our vision of creating a
world richer in nature, we need more people, and more diverse people, on nature’s side. People
of colour and disabled people are currently underrepresented across the environment, climate,
sustainability, and conservation sector. If you identify as a person of colour and/or disabled,
we are particularly interested in receiving your application. Contact us to discuss any
additional support you may need to complete your application.

The RSPB is an equal opportunities employer. This role is covered by the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

The RSPB is a licenced sponsor. This role is not eligible for UK Visa Sponsorship – the
successful applicant will need to have a pre-existing Right to Work in the UK in order to be
