The Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing timely financial statements, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, and donor regulations. The role supports effective financial management, transparency, and accountability across all projects and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Records Management
Record all financial transactions in the accounting system.
Maintain and update general ledger accounts.
Reconcile bank statements and accounts regularly.
Ensure timely deposits, withdrawals, and cash management.
Financial Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Generate financial reports for management, donors, and stakeholders.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of financial data.
Accounts Payable & Receivable
Process invoices, payments, and staff reimbursements.
Manage accounts receivable and follow up on outstanding payments.
Ensure timely settlement of bills, contracts, and obligations.
Budgeting & Forecasting
Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and donor proposals.
Monitor actual spending against approved budgets and report variances.
Provide financial forecasts and projections to support decision-making.
Compliance & Audit
Ensure compliance with accounting standards, organizational policies, and donor requirements.
Support internal and external audits with accurate documentation.
Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets.
Financial Analysis
Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
Provide insights and recommendations to management for strategic decisions.
Support Functions
Assist with administrative tasks related to finance and procurement.
Provide support during audits, donor reviews, and financial monitoring visits.
Collaborate with program and operations staff to ensure smooth financial processes.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field .
Minimum 1–3 years of professional accounting experience, preferably in NGOs or donor-funded projects.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP) and donor compliance requirements.
Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
High integrity, attention to detail, and commitment to transparency.
Preferred Experience
Hands-on experience with Sahli Soft financial management system.
Familiarity with Odoo Accounting systems for streamlined bookkeeping and reporting.
Background in multi-project donor management and cost center structures.
