About the position:
The Accounting Manager will serve as a liaison between our Field Office (FO) Accounting team in HQ and the Field Offices in country for all finance and accounting topics. This person will also mentor the Field Office HQ staff reporting directly to the role. This role is key ensuring all processes are followed which at results in continuance for our grants.
Key Outcomes:
In the first 90 days, the Manager will:
- Learn and live the Americares values.
- Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.
- Fully understand the key items/deliverables of the field offices under their supervision.
- Ensure a timely month end closing.
o Including shadowing peers on revision of accounting workpapers and accounting transactions
o Understanding of ERPx approval processes.
- Develop a relationship with staff in admin, finance, and accounting in the local field office.
- Begin to be involved in the PAP (Patient Assistance Program) operational/accounting process.
- Full understanding of the forecast items and review.
In the first 6 months, the Manager will:
- Strengthen relationships with Field Office staff and the HQ FO team.
- Ensure a timely month end closing
o Including proposed improvements
o Thorough review of accounting workpapers and accounting transactions and providing feedback to staff and/or FO accounting team.
- Demonstrate a complete understanding of the accounting closing a ERPx.
- Support preparation of the SF425, review and timely submission.
- Be fully involved in the PAP operational/accounting process.
In the first year, the Manager will:
- Fully own and be accountable for all the areas mentioned above.
- Suggest and/or incorporate improvements and best practices to processes.
- Lead and engage in conversations with leadership, including MoM results, FO suggested or requested needs.
- Have visited at least one FO to fully understand local operational/accounting procedures.

These competencies are required for the role:
- Bachelor degree in Accounting
- Big 10 accounting experience and/or 5 years of recent global non-profit accounting experience
- Demonstrated problem solving experience with a focus on delivering quality results
- Demonstrated experience leading accounting closing
- Demonstrated experience supervising and mentoring direct and indirect reports and team members in a global organization
- Experience providing support to local and HQ audits
- Exceptionally detail oriented and analytical in your approach to working effectively
- Proficiency in all Microsoft applications, including advanced proficiency in Excel
- Ability to travel 15-25% of the time to field office locations
US work authorization is required for this role.
These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:
- Accounting experience in a global humanitarian/development organization.
- Experience working in African countries, specifically Liberia and Tanzania
- Master’s degree in Accounting
- Fluency in languages that are spoken in at least one of our core locations (India, Philippines, Tanzania, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, Colombia, etc.), in addition to English.
