Alzheimer Groupe Inc (AGI) is inviting those who are passionate about working with people living with dementia and their families to join our team this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The successful candidate will co-lead programming for people living with dementia as well as design and evaluate recreational programs adapted to individual or group needs. They will work in AGI’s Activity Centre and report directly to the Team Leader.

Job Type

• In-Office, Full-time, 35 hours/week, 14 weeks of employment a tentative start date of May 30th, 2024.
• Hourly rate: $18.25
• Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Work directly with clients with a group setting, facilitating meaningful, creative activities
• Plan activities for people with neurodegenerative disorders
• Set-up and cleaning of the activity room
• Assisting the Team Leader to schedule activity program events, plan client programs, complete client evaluations, complete client statistics, ensure that supplies are well-stocked

Essential Qualifications

• Studying for or holding a B.A. in Therapeutic Recreation or Creative Arts Therapies or a DEC in Community, Recreation and Leadership Training, or a DEC in Special Care Counselling or from a closely related field.
• Knowledge of or interest in Alzheimer disease and other dementias and the impact on people living with dementia, caregivers and families
• Fluency in French and English is a necessity
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to integrate and collaborate well with other professionals
• Strong ethical standards and a respect for client confidentiality
• Ability to demonstrate empathy, flexibility and leadership
• Experience working in a similar environment

Eligibility through the Canada Summer Jobs Program

• To be eligible for this position, youth must:
  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
