Adaptation Advisor for USAID Climate Adaptation Support Activity – US based remote

The USAID-funded Climate Adaptation Support Activity (CASA) project, implemented by Tetra Tech International Development (International Development Jobs – Tetra Tech), is currently accepting expressions of interest for an Adaptation Advisor.

Position Description/Summary: The Adaptation Advisor will provide technical expertise to CASA including leading individual workstreams with USAID Missions, Washington, and partners to support adaptation mainstreaming, programming, and scaling to effect change at meaningful change. The Adaptation Advisor will contribute to and manage technical activities under the program, including setting priorities for CASA and proactively working to identify the strategic and forward-looking adaptation and resilience programming needs of USAID in coordination with the Adaptation Lead. This is a long-term position through September 2027. This position can be fully remote from a continental US-based location or hybrid within a commutable distance to either one of our office locations in Burlington, VT or Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities:

* Provides technical leadership to individual workstreams initiated by USAID including ensuring the timely delivery of relevant, high-quality, and impactful services.

* Develops workstream work plans and implementation plans and facilitates related training, deliverables, and communications products to integrate adaptation approaches.

* Provides technical guidance in exploring emerging areas of climate adaptation, climate risk management, and climate resilience.

* Contributes to thought leadership and learning for CASA and USAID.

* Participates in work plan development, strategic planning, and adaptation framework development.

* Identifies, defines, and implements other technical tasks for CASA including contributing to deliverables and managing discrete tasks and activities as needed.

* Coordinates and manages consultants and subcontractors for discrete technical activities.

* Represents CASA at workshops, conferences, and other events.

Qualifications:

* Master’s degree in climate science, environmental studies, natural resources management, international development, or a relevant field.

* At least seven years of experience in climate change adaptation and resilience. This could include experience in climate adaptation policy and planning, climate risk and vulnerability assessment, adaptation program and project design and implementation, advancing transformative and inclusive adaptation, or relevant technical experience.

* Credible track record designing adaptation programming, including transformative and inclusive approaches and cross-sectoral strategies.

* Experience assessing adaptation capacities and implementing local capacity development initiatives.

* Experience working in cross-cultural and international contexts with a variety of different institutions and stakeholders.

* Familiarity with climate risk and vulnerability assessment techniques and data sets and global climate change scenarios and models would be an asset.

* A track record of success in supporting and mobilizing climate finance would be an asset.

* Three to five years of experience providing technical support to complex, USAID-funded programs preferred.

* A history of collaboration and foster inclusive, locally led climate change adaptation activities preferred.

* Ability to travel internationally.

* Professional proficiency in English is required, proficiency in French or Spanish preferred.

* Current US work authorization is required at the time of application.

Pay Transparency Statement:
