WE ARE
Unit HR.DS.1 of the Commission’s Security Directorate is composed of 3 sectors (approximately 130
staff members) and is in charge of:
– Providing close protection for the President, the HR/VP and Commissioners and In-House armed security services;
– Running the Commission duty office (22222 – operating 24/7);
– Managing the Guards team.
HR.DS.1 is a highly motivated team, committed to serve Commission VIPs and staff. We work in a
challenging and rewarding environment, requiring constant adaptation to new situations, where
competence, discretion and loyalty are a must.
The Protection Sector, HR.DS.1.001, is the largest sector, composed of around 100 staff members.
Its main tasks include: close protection of College Members, in-house armed security services and
VIP visits. Regular contacts with the Cabinets, as well as with other Commission services, provide
for a high visibility and significant responsibility.
WE PROPOSE
Unit HR.DS.1 is seeking to hire an administrative agent in the Protection sector.
The duties consist in providing administrative support to the Protection team and its Management.
The position will consist of:
– Managing the approval of missions and fees declarations;
– Handling requests for weapon licenses;
– Support in preparing and carrying out selection exercises;

– Drafting of notes, procedures, reports, incoming and outgoing correspondence;
Follow-up of personnel administration for the Protection team;
– Support in the financial supervision of the Sector;
– General administrative support to the Sector management in their daily work.
WE LOOK FOR
We are looking for a well-organized, service-oriented and motivated colleague, with strong
organisational skills and the ability to comply with a complex set of rules and deadlines.
Trustworthy and discreet when dealing with confidential information. Ability to work in team and
interpersonal communication skills are essential.
The successful candidate should have:
– proven experience in administrative support functions (knowledge of Commission administrative tools and procedures would be an asset);
– At least 3 years’ experience in security administration or a related field;
– very good drafting skills (notes, official correspondence with internal and external stakeholders, reports);
– written and spoken fluency in English and French. Knowledge of Dutch would be an asset;
– a pro-active attitude, a can-do mentality and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
– a high level of flexibility and diplomatic skills;
– a good understanding of the financial data processing;
– availability for atypical working hours as the job is closely linked to managing missions for the teams;
the willingness to learn about the specifics of the job in the Sector.
– The candidate/job holder must either be a holder of a valid security clearance up to the level of “SECRET UE/EU SECRET” or be willing to undergo the national security vetting procedure (in order to
be allowed to perform her/his job).

General criteria:
• Are a citizen of a Member State of the EU and enjoy full rights as a citizen
• Have fulfilled any obligations imposed by applicable laws concerning military service
• Are physically fit to perform the duties linked to the post
• Produce the appropriate character references as to suitability for the performance of the duties.
Qualifications:
In order to be recruited for this position, you must have at least
• a level of post-secondary education attested by a diploma, or
• a level of secondary education attested by a diploma giving access to post-secondary
education, and appropriate professional experience of at least three years.
Only qualifications issued or recognised as equivalent by EU Member State authorities (e.g. by the Ministry of Education) will be accepted. Furthermore, before recruitment, you will be required to
provide the documents that corroborate the eligibility criteria (diplomas, certificates and other supporting documents).
Languages:
• have a thorough knowledge (minimum level C1) of one of the 24 official languages of the EU2
• AND a satisfactory knowledge (minimum level B2) of a second official language of the EU, to the extent necessary for the performance of the duties.
