  • Salary: $80,000 plus superannuation; 6 weeks’ annual leave; accommodation provided; above award conditions
  • Location: Gunbalanya community, West Arnhem Land, NT (with some local and  regional travel)
  • Contract: 12 month contract with possible renewal

About Injalak Arts:

Injalak Arts & Craft Aboriginal Corporation is an established art centre located in Gunbalanya, Western Arnhem Land, beside Injalak Hill which holds some of the most significant rock art in the world. Injalak artists create paintings on paper and bark, carvings, weavings, textile design and screen-printing, multimedia projects, and much more. The art centre offers important opportunities for the people of Gunbalanya and surrounding homelands not only in terms of employment and other economic development, but social, cultural, health and wellbeing. The art centre is internationally renowned for its representation of Kunwinjku traditions and contemporary art and design. 

About the role:

The administrator is part of a small, dynamic workforce team at Injalak Arts.  This position coordinates and provides support in the day-to-day operations of the art centre. Key on-site art centre activities include the gallery shop and visitors, artwork buying desk, screenprinting workshop, and CDP program.  The administrator performs a variety of tasks including supporting the CEO in supervising staff and seasonal casuals, as well as the Injalak artist membership. The administrator provides some administrative assistance to the CEO and Injalak Board of Directors as well as being responsible for maintaining and updating operational systems, schedules, and best practice procedures across the organisation.

Duties and Responsibilities

Operational

  • In consultation with the CEO, be the primary point of contact for staff and artists in communicating day to day priorities of Injalak arts
  • Maintain a clear and effective electronic diary of activities and events and regularly communicate new information to staff and artists
  • Develop Bininj (Indigenous) capacity by fostering a supportive learning environment and assist in seeking training and mentoring as needed
  • Liaise with the Community Development Program, coordinate participant’s work schedules and process timesheets
  • Plan, assign and supervise workloads ensuring the business has capacity and production and operational outputs are met
  • Develop positive working relationships with the local community, Injalak Arts partners, relevant agencies, stakeholders, suppliers, and service providers
  • Maintain regular communication with the CEO on all operational matters
  • Develop and enhance operational procedures and systems
  • Uphold best practice quality control and safety measures, ensuring Injalak complies with OHS&W legislation and notify the CEO of any issues as they arise
  • Assist with ordering materials and equipment, postal and freight, emails and enquiries and making travel arrangements for artists and staff
  • Organise seasonal bush trips with artists/staff to source materials on country and visit homeland communities
  • Communicate customer/client/staff issues with the CEO and devise ways of improving the customer and workplace experience, including resolving problems and complaints

Administration

  • Recognise and respect existing Traditional Law and leadership frameworks
  • Monitor the Injalak email and respond to enquiries
  • Support the writing and acquittal of funding submissions as directed
  • Schedule and conduct the annual stocktake with team members
  • Monitor and process staff timesheets
  • Assist the CEO in the coordination and documentation of meetings
  • Maintain efficient, safe and accurate electronic file management systems
  • Ensure the rights of members are upheld, including copyright, intellectual and cultural property, resale royalty and the Australian Indigenous Art Code of Conduct.

Sales & Promotion

  • Support staff in the gallery shop and artist buying desk during busy periods
  • Support the coordination of exhibitions and projects as directed
  • Support staff to manage the website, social media and online community
  • As required, attend exhibitions, markets, and events as a senior staff representative of Injalak Arts
  • Monitor the accurate and efficient entry of artwork and sales on the SAM database and support artwork processing when required
  • Other duties as may be directed from time to time
