Position Overview

International Admissions is a subunit of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions which reports to the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management. Enrollment Management also includes the following functional units: Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarships, Student Lifecycle Technology, the Office of the University Registrar, Enrollment Management Marketing and Graduate Enrollment Management. International Admissions is responsible for international undergraduate and non-degree admissions, and graduate, undergraduate, and non-degree international recruitment. A key member of the recruitment team, the International Student Recruiter must have a passion for the University of Kansas, be highly-motivated, goal-oriented, and have the ability to articulate the values and objectives of the University of Kansas to attract, recruit, admit, and enroll a high quality and diverse student population to meet the enrollment goals of KU. The position is a combination of people-facing responsibilities as well as administrative tasks. This position reports to the Recruitment Manager within International Admissions.

Duties include communicating daily and building relationships with prospective student and families, counselors, sponsors, and agents; managing correspondence; coordinating in-person and virtual recruitment events and visits; and collaborating with other recruitment staff. Admissions representatives are responsible for interpreting data to tailor outreach efforts with the goal of elevating KU’s market position and profile. Domestic and international travel may be required. Some evening and weekend work is required. This position also supervises the International Student Ambassadors.

Job Description

70%  Recruitment Management

  • Utilizes both in-person and digital strategies to recruit prospective students in a defined territory, meeting and exceeding goals when opportunities exist. This position will serve as a key liaison for sponsored and visiting student recruitment, transfer student recruitment, and additional recruitment categories as assigned by the Recruitment Manager
  • Analyzes data and past productivity to devise, implement and assesses recruitment plan and strategy in the assigned territory/recruitment categories.
  • Uses institutional philosophy of recruitment to communicate KU academic programs, processes and services to a wide range of prospective students and families.
  • Advises students and families of admission and scholarship requirements and/or transfer guidelines.
  • Manages multiple communication channels and provide timely responses with prospective students and families; i.e. assist with unit email account inquiries, manage personal email account for office based communication in coordination with separate constituent relationship management (CRM) platform email system to communicate with students and families, answer inbound calls, makes outbound calls, create and responds to texts messages via CRM. May also maintain or assist with social media accounts connected with assigned region(s).
  • Provides reports of recruitment efforts to the Recruitment Manager.
  • Provide support for international recruitment agents, including daily communication with agents, agent application process, and maintaining and tracking agent data,
  • Supervise student ambassadors.

25%   Staffing and Organizing Virtual and On-and-Off Campus Recruitment Events

  • Provides in-person and virtual presentations in a central public speaking role to small and large groups of prospective students, families, agents, and community stakeholders; communicates KU’s competitive advantage to campus visitors and other parties in off-campus venues.
  • Plans and executes individual meetings with prospective students and families virtually, and on/off campus.
  • Plans, organizes and hosts targeted recruitment events including webinars and virtual fairs; coordinating and hosting with university students, faculty, staff and alumni.
  • Collaborate with domestic recruitment team on high school visits, counselor events and local fairs.

5%    Other duties as assigned

  • May include participation, committee involvement, and other responsibilities assigned by the Recruitment Manager.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree at time of appointment.
  • At least 3 months presentation experience, as evidenced by coursework, extra-curricular activities, or professional presentations.
  • Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience as a KU student and/or experience studying abroad for one year.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience communicating effectively in a wide range of professional settings.  
  • Bi-lingual with demonstrated proficiency in speaking and writing.
  • Prior work experience working independently toward outlined objectives.  
  • Experience working with diverse student populations.
  • Experience in public relations, marketing, advertising or university admissions.
  • Prior work experience organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  • Graduate of the University of Kansas.
