About Equal Measures 2030

EM2030 is a collaboration of national, regional, and global leaders from feminist networks, civil society, international development and the private sector. We connect data and evidence with advocacy and action on gender equality, to transform the lives of women and girls and realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

It is more than 25 years since 189 countries committed to the Beijing Platform for Action by advancing women’s rights. And we have less than 10 years until the 2030 deadline for achieving the SDGs and their promise of gender equality.

But Equal Measures 2030’s SDG Gender Index shows that not a single country has yet achieved gender equality.

Our Strategic Plan 2020-2025 is founded on the belief that data can expose gender inequality and injustice, motivate change, and drive accountability. From 2020 to 2025, working with women and girls and across feminist organizations and movements, Equal Measures 2030 will catalyse change through data-driven advocacy aimed at holding governments and policymakers accountable.

Rapid change on gender equality is possible. Join us to help make it happen.

Overview of the EM2030 Advisory Body

Equal Measures 2030 is at an exciting stage in our growth and development. We became a fiscally sponsored project of Panorama Global in May 2022, and as a result of an extensive consultation process with our partners in late 2022/early 2023, we decided to transition to a new coalition model. With the new model we seek to be a more engaged, member-driven coalition that supports shared learning and a collective voice on data-driven advocacy for gender equality. The new coalition will be formally launched and operational in early 2024.

The EM2030 coalition is excited to open a Call for Applications for its first Advisory Body, which will guide and oversee the operations of the EM2030 Secretariat. The Advisory Body will consist of five members (independent Advisors, not affiliated with the EM2030 coalition partners/members) who will serve for around two-years on a voluntary basis. The group is expected to meet formally once per year (primarily virtual, with the possibility of occasional in-person where budget and scheduling allows).

With the EM2030 coalition’s strategy and programmatic priorities set by the coalition Steering Group, the role of the Advisory Body will be to ensure the EM2030 Secretariat is operating in a responsible, sustainable, compliant, and effective manner. The Advisory Body’s activities will be distinct from, and subject to, the legal oversight and accountability roles played by Panorama Global (EM2030’s fiscal sponsor), which are clearly outlined in a Fiscal Sponsorship agreement.

The Advisory Body will advise the EM2030 Secretariat on key operational matters including financial oversight, compliance, business development, organisational development, staffing, and risk mitigation. The Advisory Body will also be accountable for objective setting and performance management of the EM2030 Executive Director (ED).

We are looking for Advisers who are deeply passionate about EM2030’s vision, mission, and values and who will relish the opportunity to champion our coalition’s work across their networks.

Responsibilities of the Advisory body will include:

Working within the parameters of the EM2030 strategic plan (set and owned by the Coalition Steering Committee), the Advisory Body members will be responsible for:

  • Acting as external Champions for the work of the EM2030 coalition, leveraging networks for influencing, fundraising, collaboration, and strategic opportunities.
  • Performance management of the EM2030 Secretariat’s Executive Director (ED).

    • Work with the ED to set performance goals and objectives.
    • Provide feedback, including consulting with the coalition Steering Group and Secretariat’s Management Team members for input and reflections on ED performance.
    • Sign off on ED compensation, benefits, and expense claims.
  • Whistleblowing and grievance mechanisms for EM2030 matters.
  • Advising on the financial management and sustainability of the Secretariat (for example, approve Secretariat operating budgets, collaborate with fiscal sponsor to oversee EM2030 internal financial controls and fiscal risk management as needed, set cash reserves policy, monitor adherence with regulatory requirements, liaise with audit processes as needed, etc.).
  • Providing guidance to the Secretariat on fundraising and business development, including supporting the Secretariat to identify and connect with new partnerships and funding opportunities.
  • Providing strategic support and advice into organisational development and staffing plans, including promoting best practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Overseeing development of Secretariat policies and procedures in accordance with any relevant Panorama policies and procedures and monitor adherence to these.
  • Supporting the Secretariat to identify and manage risks, including by regularly reviewing the risk register and mitigation plans.

Individual Advisory Body members will commit to:

  • Championing and embodying EM2030’s mission, vision and values.
  • Participating actively in the work of the Advisory Body. This will include:
    • One formal meeting per year (virtual or in person)
    • Being available to consult with the ED and Secretariat Managers, as needed
  • Leveraging their networks to promote the work of the EM2030 coalition.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of information belonging to, or obtained through, their affiliation with EM2030.
  • Disclosing any prospective conflicts of interest.

Knowledge, skills, and/or experience you’ll need:

  • Extensive experience in NGO/non-profit management and governance, including direct experience with performance management of non-profit CEOs/Executive Directors and experience having served on an international non-profit Board.
  • Specific experience in one or more of the following areas:
      1. Finance, fiscal accountability, and financial management
      1. Organisational development and strategic staffing planning, especially for small to medium non-profit organisations
      1. Human resource management and equity, diversity, and inclusion (experience with global and remote teams would be an advantage)
      1. Philanthropy, fundraising and business development (especially in the corporates, trusts and foundations sector)
  • Understanding of coalitions in the international development and/or social justice sectors
  • Demonstrated commitment to Feminist, Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppression values and principles, and to decolonising work in the International Development sector
