Context

The WHO Türkiye Country Office will participate in the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence under the theme: “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls.” This campaign raises awareness of violence against women and girls in both physical and digital spaces, with a focus this year on addressing technology-facilitated violence, such as cyber harassment, doxing, online stalking, and non-consensual image sharing. To support WHO’s campaign efforts in Türkiye, UN Volunteers will be deployed to support awareness-raising, communications, youth and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the PRSEAH Coordinator at WHO Türkiye, the UN Community Volunteer will:
· Participate in orientation on WHO’s strategy and messaging for the 16 Days of Activism campaign, with a focus on ending digital violence against women and girls.
· In collaboration with WHO project managers, assist WHO in planning and integrating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness sessions in workshops that target youth, men, persons with disabilities, beneficiaries, partners, and community leaders to educate them on recognizing and preventing gender-based violence.
· In collaboration with the UN Volunteer in charge of Community Engagement and Digital Violence Prevention, assist in developing and disseminating communications materials (e.g., posters, social media posts, short videos, testimonies) that highlight the risks and impact of digital violence.
· Collaborate with WHO Mental Health Team to develop key messages for healthcare staff on how they can contribute to ending digital violence against all women and girls.
· Help coordinate outreach to local youth groups, women’s organizations, OPDs, Universities, schools, and community leaders, encouraging their participation in campaign events.
· Promote the campaign’s core messages through local community platforms.
· Maintain records of participants, attendance, workshop materials and event documentation.
· Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
– Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day, 5th of December).
– Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
– Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities (for instance at https://vra.unv.org).
– Contribute articles/wrjte-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
– Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
– Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.

Required Skills and Experience

· At least secondary education or equivalent.
· A bachelor’s degree in communication or a related field would be an advantage.
· Experience working on GBV-related programmes or advocacy is desirable.
· Voluntary service, community engagement or work experience can be considered in lieu of any formal education.
· Skills in community development.
· Basic usage of computer and office applications.
· Good communication skills.

This is a volunteer assignment, not employment. By sharing your time, energy, and talents, you can support communities in need and become part of something greater than yourself — a global movement for peace, development, and humanitarian aid. Volunteering strengthens trust, solidarity, and reciprocity among citizens, and it can promote a sense of belonging and purpose.

The UN Volunteer will be based in Ankara and will be working from the office two days a week to connect and collaborate with staff members. The UN Volunteers are responsible for arranging her/his own housing and other living essentials within UNV contract period.

• There will be no payment, stipend, or any allowances.

UN Volunteer supporting SPI in Europe and Central Asia region:

The support provided by the UN Volunteer for events supporting the host UN entity in the region of Europe and Central Asia is a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) by UNV. SPIs respond to volunteer-specific needs of the United Nations system and donor entities. They are established by specific policy documents that address the desired programmatic aims and broader SDGs’ outcomes in line with UNV guiding principles. UN Volunteers for this SPI in the Europe and Central Asia region are governed by the particular conditions set out in their offers and contracts.

In addition to the specific requirements set out above, candidates for these UN Volunteer assignments will be subject to background checks, confirmation and clearance provided by the United Nations Department for Safety and Security (UNDSS).
