About the Role

As the Advocate (Aged Care) you will inform, educate, support, and represent ADA Australia clients, helping to empower them to make their own choices while having their rights and interests respected.

You will report to and work closely with the Team Leader and the Manager, Advocacy Services and maintain collaborative relationships with the Executive Management Team and all other staff members.

Key Duties

  • Deliver high-quality advocacy through information, education, support, and representation.
  • Provide advocacy at individual, group, or systemic levels to resolve client issues.
  • Support clients in understanding their rights, responsibilities, and entitlements, assisting them with voicing concerns or complaints.
  • Network and build partnerships with other organisations to promote ADA Australia’s services.
  • Represent ADA Australia at workshops, forums, public engagements, and networking events to raise community awareness about identified issues.
  • Identify and recommend appropriate services for older people and people with disability.
  • Promote and support high-quality service provision for clients, families, and staff.
  • Identify service needs/gaps from casework and provide feedback to Team Leader and Manager, Advocacy Services.
  • Actively participate in case discussions, team meetings, and project work.
  • Develop and achieve targets within the annual work plan for performance and education.
  • Maintain high standards of recording and consultation.
  • Contribute to quality improvement programs to meet accreditation standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including state, federal, and funding agreement legislation.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in Workplace Health and Safety activities to maintain a safe work environment for all stakeholders.

About You

  • Experience working with and/or advocating for older people or disadvantaged/vulnerable groups and operating within a social justice framework.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and/or training.
  • High level interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, engage, negotiate confidently and deliver presentations.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply legislation, policies and procedures, including the ability to identify issues and problem solve.
  • Willing and able to travel throughout the region.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid Australian Driver’s license
  • Current (less than three (3) years old) pre-employment National Criminal History Certificate
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance
  • Valid Working with Children/Blue Card.
