Scope of work:

The Afghan Community Support Specialist will support IRC Case Managers in addressing client needs as outlined in their initial needs assessment upon enrollment into the Utah Refugee Coordinated Case Management Program. 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Promote mental health and psychosocial support within affected communities
  • Support Case Managers with conducting initial and final needs assessments for clients
  • Support Case Managers with following up on clearly identified goals and activities in client’s individualized action plans 
  • Document activities through case notes and data entry
  • Receive walk-ins for Afghan clients as available
  • Provide Dari, Pashto and/or Farsi interpretation as needed
  • Connect clients with resources and key support in the following areas: Education, Health, Mental Health, Housing, Employment, Childcare, ELL and Commnunity Integration 
  • Other duties, as required

Key Working Relationships:
Position reports to the: Extended Case Management Supervisor 

Job Requirements:

Education and Language: 

  • High School Diploma, US or other
  • Fluency in Dari and English both written and spoken is required. 

    • Pashto or Farsi in addition preferred

Work Experience:

  • Prior experience and/or interest in education, social work, advocacy, community based social action, or health care.  

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment. 
  • Flexible and reliable, strong interpersonal skills, and outstanding attention to detail.  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications (databases, Box).  
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, and access to reliable transportation

Working Environment: 

  • A combination of standard office environment and ‘field’ time in and around the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget.  Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
