About the role
We are looking for a dedicated individual to join our team of aged care advocates who are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of older people in our communities.
In this role, you will engage with older people and provide them with the essential knowledge and support to navigate the complex NSW aged care system effectively. Your responsibilities will include organising and leading informative and educational sessions for aged care service recipients, carers, residents and staff of aged care facilities, as well as healthcare professionals and other community organisations. You will also play a crucial role in delivering vital assistance and information to seniors through various communication channels, to ensure that they receive the necessary support and guidance to exercising their rights.

Role Responsibilities
As an Aged Care Advocate, you’ll be responsible for:
- Advocating on behalf of older people receiving or seeking to receive aged care services to ensure their rights are upheld and responded to appropriately.
- Listening to and help older people receiving or seeking to receive aged care services and/or their representatives make informed decisions via telephone and in person interactions.
- Advocating on behalf of clients in response to complaints against aged care service providers to have their concerns addressed.
- Participate in the maintenance and development of local networks and relationships to promote Seniors Rights Service and expand its reach.
Your regular work includes:
- Managing intake and advocacy cases using our Salesforce database – includes regular rostering on live calls.
- Referring clients to other services including the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
- Providing education and information sessions to aged care recipients and aged care staff – using your own registered and comprehensively insured vehicle.
- Contributing to promotional campaigns targeting identified priority groups.
The perfect fit for this role will have:
- A relevant tertiary or TAFE qualification (e.g. Social Sciences or Human Services) or relevant experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of the aged care system in NSW
- Experience in delivering workshops and presentations
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office 365 and experience in data entry
- Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to explain complex information concisely to a diverse range of people.
- Ability to work both in a team and independently including the ability to prioritise your own work to deliver results.
- A high level of resilience, empathy and a can-do attitude.
- Some intrastate travel may be required.
- A willingness to obtain an Influenza vaccination if required
