JOB DESCRIPTION

Aid Gate Organization (AGO) is seeking a technically skilled and field-oriented Agriculture Engineer to support the implementation of an integrated agriculture and livelihoods project in Al Lamyia, Maysan Governorate. The project includes distributing certified seeds and quality fodder to vulnerable farmers and herders, in addition to providing hands-on technical training on climate-resilient farming practices. The Agriculture Engineer will play a central role in ensuring that agricultural inputs are appropriate, timely, and lead to improved productivity. The role also includes supporting beneficiaries with technical advice, field visits, and monitoring of agricultural activities.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and coordinate the distribution of seeds and fodder, ensuring quality and suitability for local conditions and seasonal timing.
  • Provide technical guidance on crop production, fodder cultivation, soil management, and sustainable farming techniques.
  • Conduct regular field visits to support and follow up with beneficiaries on the proper usage of agricultural inputs.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training sessions for beneficiaries on climate-smart agriculture, irrigation efficiency, composting, and good agricultural practices (GAPs).
  • Collaborate with the Veterinarian and Project Manager to ensure integration of crop and livestock support activities.
  • Monitor crop performance and collect data to assess the effectiveness of agricultural interventions.
  • Identify pest and disease issues and provide environmentally appropriate solutions to farmers.
  • Develop extension materials (leaflets, posters, technical guides) to support knowledge transfer.
  • Assist in developing demonstration plots or model farms if required by the project.
  • Liaise with local agricultural departments, extension workers, and community leaders to align project activities with local priorities and enhance sustainability.
  • Ensure all agricultural activities follow safety, environmental, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of distributions, training sessions, and beneficiary support provided.
  • Support the MEAL team in conducting pre- and post-assessments, as well as impact tracking.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in agriculture engineering, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4–5 years of field experience in agriculture-based programming in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Proven experience in crop production, soil management, and input distribution.
  • Practical knowledge of climate-smart agriculture and sustainable land-use practices.
  • Familiarity with fodder crop production and smallholder farming systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with local farmers and communities.
  • Good computer skills including MS Office; experience with GIS or agricultural tools is a plus.
  • Fluency in Arabic; working knowledge of English is desirable.
  • Willingness to work in rural, hard-to-reach areas and conduct regular field visits.

  • Commitment to promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable farming practices.
  • Capable of integrating agriculture support with other livelihood components, including livestock and infrastructure.
  • Ability to analyze field data and contribute to reporting and learning.
