Job Description:

A Successful Candidate Will:

  • Teach a variety of college courses related to American Indian Studies, with particular emphasis on the Anishinaabeg culture.
  • Assist the American Indian Studies/Anishinaabeg Program Coordinator with planning, program review/assessment, student outreach/recruitment, mentoring/advising students, and new curriculum/program development.
  • Participate in institutional planning and student success initiatives.
  • Be able to teach using a variety of delivery methodologies ranging from in-person to online to hybrid/blended courses and including the use of learning management systems.
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively in a multidimensional campus community, with a special focus on American Indian students as well as students with a broad range of skill levels.
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to supporting diverse students through instruction, active participation in campus activities, and other college and state system-level initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Native American Studies or with 30 quarter/20 semester credits in courses which support the development of expertise in the assigned field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Native American Studies; or a master’s degree with a minimum of 18 semester (27 quarter graduate credits) in Native American Studies.
  • Ability to teach in a second field such as Anishinaabe Language or the willingness to complete the necessary work to meet the requirements for second credential field during the probationary period.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Prior teaching experience in a tribal and/or two-year post-secondary institution.
  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a student population encompassing a broad range of skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, including committee work.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Online and hybrid/blended teaching experience, including the use of learning management systems and videoconferencing technology in the classroom.

Other Requirements:

In accordance with the Minnesota State’s Vehicle Fleet Safety Program, employees driving on college business who use a rental or state vehicle shall be required to conform to Minnesota State’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor Vehicle Records check.
