This dynamic position offers an excellent opportunity to administer a multi-state AMC AmeriCorps Program and support AMC’s youth employment program in northern New Hampshire. This position will work to ensure the continued success of AMC AmeriCorps Program in partnership with The Corps Network (TCN) Education Award Program as well as support the partnership with Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG)-New Hampshire Youth Trail Crew. The AMC AmeriCorps Program Supervisor will plan, coordinate, and administer an AMC AmeriCorps program and AMC/JAG-NH program based out of AMC Camp Dodge Trails Center – Gorham, New Hampshire. This position will collaborate with several seasonal staff to manage the 16+ Member program along with maintaining communications with land managing partners and TCN.  

The AMC AmeriCorps Program Supervisor reports to the AMC Trail Programs Manager – North Country and will work closely with a variety of staff located at Pinkham Notch Visitor Center, Highland Center at Crawford Notch, AMC Headquarters in Boston, MA, Western Massachusetts, and Maine. This position will also work with volunteer leaders, AMC committees, ATC, USFS, NPS, USFW, various land trusts, and other partners as needed. 

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING AT AMC

  • Oversee all aspects of the AMC AmeriCorps Program including AmeriCorps compliance, reporting, recruitment, placement, training, Member support, and reporting.
  • Support a 16+ Member AMC AmeriCorps Program serving on conservation and trail stewardship projects across New Hampshire and in Massachusetts on occasion.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise 4 seasonal employees that serve as staff trail crew leaders for the AMC AmeriCorps Members.
  • Recruit, hire and supervise 2 seasonal employees that serve as staff trail crew leaders for the AMC/JAG-NH Youth Trail Crew.
  • Coordinate with Land Managers on AMC AmeriCorps and AMC/JAG-NH conservation and trail stewardship projects.
  • Collaborate with The Corps Network for the acquisition and management of the AmeriCorps Education Award Program.  
  • Work collectively with others in AMC’s Trails Department on conservation and trail stewardship projects, non-Federal contracts, and other AMC Trails Department initiatives.
  • Maintain program compliance, policy expectations and safety practices on AMC AmeriCorps Programs.
  • Serve as primary contact for the AMC in partnership with The Corps Network (TCN) Education Award Program and Jobs for America’s Graduates – New Hampshire.
  • Participate in annual conferences offered by The Corps Network.
  • Collect programs statistics and compile regular reports including AmeriCorps Member engagement, service hours, accomplishments, etc.
  • Manage the AMC AmeriCorps Program budget.
  • Participate in other AMC committees, teams, and working groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT AMC IS LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of trail maintenance and construction, natural resource management, or outdoor program administration, with previous supervisory and leadership experience. Experience can be in any combination of staff or volunteer roles.
  • Bachelor’s degree with studies in Recreation, Natural Resources Management or relevant combined professional experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills that include the ability to handle many different projects simultaneously and find creative solutions to problems.
  • Proven successful supervisory ability of seasonal employees
  • Proficiency in the use of computers with associated word processing, desktop publishing, and database programs
  • Works well with others in a professional environment and can interact with the public and land managing partners under sometimes challenging conditions
  • Must be willing to work occasional weekends and evenings and be able to travel and work in the field
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving history subject to a driving record check conducted by the AMC
  • Physically able to travel safely on foot in all weather conditions on unimproved trails carrying up to 20 lbs of gear is preferred.
  • Ability to perform and teach a variety of trail work activities is preferred.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

WHAT AMC CAN OFFER YOU

Salary range: $45,843 – $61,849 / year

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
