Reno Biological Services is a small biological consulting company based below the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains in Reno, Nevada. We specialize in conducting biological surveys, permitting, and compliance for industry and federal clients throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Great Basin Desert regions. Description

For the 2024 season, Reno Biological is recruiting amphibian crew leads and field technicians to conduct surveys on the Plumas National Forest in California. Hires will start as soon as possible and are guaranteed full-time work through September. A typical work week will be from Monday through Friday. Weeks conducting fieldwork will involve long hours and camping or lodging, for up to four nights per trip. We are very accommodating with personal scheduling needs.

The position will involve:

  • Navigating to remote field sites via 4×4 driving and backcountry hiking.
  • Conducting surveys for amphibians (California red-legged frog, Sierra Nevada yellow-legged frog, and foothill yellow-legged frog) using standardized protocols.
  • Managing a team of field technicians (crew lead position).
  • Collating data.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow company and client safety protocols and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote locations for up to five days per trip.
  • Ability to follow standardized protocols to conduct wildlife surveys and collect quality data. All technicians will be provided with training.
  • Ability to navigate to remote field sites using GPS and topographic maps, 4×4 vehicles, and cross-country hiking in rugged terrain and inclement conditions.
  • One season of field experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Use of personal high-clearance vehicle preferred (compensated per mile). If a successful candidate does not possess a vehicle suitable for fieldwork, they will be provided with one.

Compensation

Pay Range: Crew Lead $30-$40/hr.; Field Technician $25-$35/hr. Overtime (1.5x base salary) for weeks more than 40 hrs.

Per Diem: $50/day, for overnight stays.

Lodging: Lodging will be provided (pending availability).

Vehicle: Option to use personal vehicle, with compensation at the Federal Standard Rate (currently $0.67/mile).
