The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to our mission of saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries. CHAI was founded in 2002 in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in the countries with the highest burden of the disease. Over the following two decades, CHAI has expanded its focus. Today, along with HIV, we work in conjunction with our partners to prevent and treat infectious diseases such as COVID-19, malaria, tuberculosis, and hepatitis. Our work has also expanded into cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and other non-communicable diseases, and we work to accelerate the rollout of lifesaving vaccines, reduce maternal and child mortality, combat chronic malnutrition, and increase access to assistive technology. We are investing in horizontal approaches to strengthen health systems through programs in human resources for health, digital health, and health financing. With each new and innovative program, our strategy is grounded in maximizing sustainable impact at scale, ensuring that governments lead the solutions, that programs are designed to scale nationally, and learnings are shared globally.

Program and Position Overview:
Despite tremendous progress in accelerating access to HIV treatment, over 1.3 million people were newly infected with HIV in 2022, significantly above the Global Prevention Coalition (GPC) target of 370,000 new annual infections by 2025. To achieve epidemic control, experts agree that primary HIV prevention, in addition to secondary prevention through treatment and viral suppression, will be necessary – and these interventions will need to be sustained over time until we have access to an effective and affordable HIV vaccine. Zimbabwe remains one of the countries with a high burden of HIV in sub-Saharan Africa, with a generalised epidemic and HIV prevalence in adults (15-49 years) of 11.0% in 2022, a reduction from 25.4% in 1996. As part of its support to the Zimbabwe’s HIV response, CHAI is implementing a grant with two primary outcomes:
- Strengthen HIV-prevention program integration, strategically leveraging lessons from the coordination, management, and implementation of the Voluntary Male Medical Circumcision (VMMC) program and
- Document and share best practices from the implementation and transition of VMMC programs and the integration of combination HIV-prevention programs with national, regional, and global stakeholders.
CHAI is seeking an Analyst, HIV Prevention to support program implementation including strategic support to relevant government departments in operational roll-out of programmatic activities including national policy and coordination, with a specific focus on integrating the delivery of behavioral and structural HIV prevention interventions in routine HIV prevention programming. This Analyst will join a team of 5, thus the Analyst must be able to function independently and have a strong commitment to excellence, with a keen eye for detail. Successful applicants will have excellent relationship-building, communication (written and verbal), and negotiation skills. CHAI seeks a highly motivated individual with analytical grounding, and strong problem-solving abilities to assume the role of Analyst, HIV Prevention.
The Analyst should also exhibit the following important personal qualities: resourcefulness, responsibility, tenacity, independence, energy, the highest level of integrity, and a strong professional ethic.
The position may require up to 25% in-country travel. The Analyst, HIV Prevention, will be based in Harare, Zimbabwe, and will report to the Program Manager for HIV prevention.
This is a short-term position with an expected end date of 31 December 2024.
Responsibilities
Specifically, key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support program implementation including strategic support to relevant government departments in operational roll-out of programmatic activities including national policy and coordination, with a specific focus on integrating the delivery of behavioral and structural HIV prevention interventions in routine HIV prevention programming.
- Support the design and implementation of processes, systems for collection, collation, and synthesis of program data to inform program strategy, operations, and reviews- including development.
- Monitor program implementation activities; identify potential risks and challenges to the implementation plan and roll-out of activities; work towards addressing potential risks/ mitigation mechanisms.
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, presenting findings and recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Provide input into relevant planning and policy documents to support the introduction and scale-up of innovations within HIV prevention.
- Maintain key relationships with HIV prevention stakeholders at the provincial and district levels to ensure alignment of operations and priorities while minimizing duplication of efforts.
- Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field required, such as Public Health, Social Sciences, Development Studies, Economics or Health Sciences.
- Professional experience in demanding, results-oriented public and/or private environments.
- Demonstrable experience in social and behavioral change programming, preferably in the HIV space.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills, and ability to use data to inform program development and strategy and present results in narrative and graphic form.
- Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required, including experience using Excel for quantitative analyses or costing.
- Proven ability to operate independently, multitask, and set and achieve ambitious targets with limited guidance.
- Prior experience working with MOHCC or HIV implementing partners will be a bonus.
