Job Description

Oversee satellite animal care facilities and ensure the care of captive research animals to support the research programs of several Principal Investigators in the Biological Sciences Department. Animals may include birds (primarily songbirds), reptiles, and amphibians. Responsibilities include: oversight and compliance with facility operating procedures; recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising student wage and work-study students; oversight and completion of animal husbandry tasks such as cleaning rooms, cages and equipment; feeding and watering animals, checking health status, and administering to sick and injured animals as instructed; ordering and receiving supplies for animal care and facility maintenance.

Required Qualifications

-Knowledge of federal and university regulations related to animal care and use, including USDA-regulated animals.
– Experience caring for captive vertebrates in a research setting
-Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
-Strong working knowledge of record keeping computer programs such as Excel
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience caring for songbirds, reptiles, and/or amphibians
-Completion of IACUC training
-Experience managing a facility and/or supervising other personnel

Salary Information

Commensurate with experience but within budget maximum
