Project Background:
The Bangladesh Systems Strengthening for One Health (SSOH) aims to enhance Bangladesh’s global health security (GHS) capacity to operate a high functioning and equitable One Health (OH) disease detection system that prevents, detects, and responds to new and emerging infectious and endemic zoonotic disease, while ensuring good One Health governance and reducing risks of irreversible antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Through evidence-informed and integrated systems approach, SSOH will strengthen Bangladesh’s One Health Systems and enhance the country’s capacity to prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from infectious disease threats. The activity aims therefore aims to achieve results under the following development objectives:
- Strengthen Systems for Better One Health Governance across the Government of Bangladesh (GOB)
- Strengthen One Health Disease Detection Systems for effective prevention, detection and response.
- Reduce Threats of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) across OH sectors.
Role’s Purpose:
The Animal Health Specialist (AHS) will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh and will report directly to the Animal Health Team Lead. The AHS will oversee the development of new databases, monitor database performance, and interpret raw data and turn it into usable feedback and application. S/he will directly manage project data analysis, verify, and extract data, and create or implement a digital conversion program in adherence to DAI policies and procedures and USAID rules and regulations.
Key duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary point of contact for DAI home office Project Manager on all home office requests related to animal health related subjects
- Provide the required support to the engaged government entities in developing and maintain animal health documentation and operating manuals
- Perform data analysis and produce reports in various formats including graphs, charts, etc.
- Work with the Chief of Party to review and analyze budget estimates for allowability, allocability, reasonableness, and consistency
- Develop comprehensive technical work manuals and guides for all employees and sectors under their supervision
- Ensure processes are scalable, or work to address baseline scalability, as project needs evolve over time
- Establish project administrative policies in accordance with USAID rules and regulations, DAI policy and Bangladesh law
- Manage and supervise staff or technical function assigned to a department or several project areas
- Solve complex technical, managerial, or operation problems and evaluate options based on relevant information**,** considerable knowledge, and varied experiences
Qualifications:
- B.A. Degree in relevant field such as environmental sciences, biology, engineering, animal science, or another relevant field. An advanced degree or its equivalent is preferred
- Minimum 10 years of experience on USAID or other international donor funded programs, and demonstrated experience leading and managing animal health analysis of projects
- Prior work experience in Bangladesh
- Ability to work and quickly adapt in a complex and volatile environment
- Excellent oral and written skills in English required.

- Ability to solve complex technical, managerial, or operational problems and evaluate options based on relevant information and strategic planning
- Demonstrated experience leading diverse teams in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks. Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Speaks knowledgably concerning the macroeconomic, political, social, and cultural environment of project as it relates to animal health
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Reporting
The Animal Health Specialist will report to the Animal Health Team Lead.
