Animateur.trice des ateliers d’éducation alimentaire / Food Literacy Workshop Facilitator

Who are we looking for?  

We are currently looking to hire multiple part-time Food Literacy Workshop Facilitators. In particular, we are seeking facilitators for two different kinds of workshops offered by the Depot:

• Boîte à Lunch NDG – after-school food literacy workshops with elementary children ages 9 to 11 and adolescents;
• Community cooking workshops with families and adults, such as My Healthy Family.

Who we are: 

The Depot is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 that works with community partners to address the root causes of hunger and poverty in NDG and surrounding neighborhoods. We offer over a dozen food-related activities around four pillars: share, cook, grow and mobilize. To learn more, come visit us!

The Depot is working towards creating an organizational culture based on dignity, respect, care and openness, where anti-oppression and anti-racism are living and embodied practices. To achieve this, we aim to recruit a team that is representative of NDG’s diverse identities and lived experiences in order for our work to be by and for our communities.

Boîte à Lunch NDG is a food literacy  program serving youth and families in NDG. We run cooking and nutrition workshops for elementary and high school students in neighborhood schools and community centers, during which participants prepare healthy meals and snacks, learn to navigate our food system and become critical consumers . 

Our Community Kitchen Workshops invite families and adults to participate in preparing and sharing a meal in neighborhood community spaces,  centering cultural appreciation, knowledge of nutrition and building community.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitation of workshops: 2 to 5 workshops per week;
• Transfer of cooking, nutrition and food systems knowledge to workshop participants;
• Ensure a safe, hygienic and empowering environment for participants;
• Communication with participants and program partners;
• Contribute to the development, planning, and evaluation of the workshops and program;
• Participate in bi-weekly team meetings and facilitate collaboration among team members;
• Facilitate the final party for Boîte à Lunch workshop participants (to be confirmed).

Qualifications:

• Bilingual French/English with the ability to facilitate comfortably in both languages;
• Facilitation experience with youth;
• Ability to interact positively with youth of various social and economic backgrounds;
• Understanding of the challenges faced by immigrant families, appreciation of cultural knowledge;
• A foundation and interest in healthy eating and nutrition;
• Confidence in the kitchen and ability to transmit skills to participants in an empowering way;
• Strong capacity for effective teamwork and experience working in community settings;
• Knowledge of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce community is an asset;
• First aid certification and/or MAPAQ food handler certification is an asset; 
• Ability to lift heavy loads (10kg/ 22lbs) and to work on your feet for long hours;
• Sense of initiative and creativity encouraged, along with a passion for food and for cooking!

Schedule: 

A weekly schedule will be set for each facilitator. We have several part-time positions to fill with varying weekly hours (between 6 and 20 hours per week). Boîte à Lunch facilitation shifts are primarily in the afternoons and evenings on weekdays, and on some weekends. We will ask candidates to tell us their availability as part of the application process. Included in the weekly schedule, facilitators will be expected to do some preparation work (reading) from home, and must be available for team meetings every 2 weeks, for two training meetings at the beginning of the session, for the end-of-session party for Boîte à Lunch, and an end of session wrap-up team meeting..

Contract Conditions:

• 15-week contract from February 5th to May 17th, 2024; 
• Possible contract renewal in fall 2024.
• Salary: $18.00 per hour.

Nous sommes présentement à la recherche de plusieurs animateurs.trices d’ateliers d’éducation alimentaire à temps partiel. En particulier, nous cherchons des animateurs.trices pour deux différentes sortes d’ateliers :

• Boîte à lunch NDG – ateliers de cuisine parascolaires avec enfants de 9 à 11 ans et ados;
• Ateliers de cuisine communautaires en famille ou avec des  adultes, tel que Ma Famille en Santé.

Boîte à lunch NDG est un programme d’éducation alimentaire qui implique les jeunes de NDG. Nous réalisons des ateliers participatifs d’éducation alimentaire pour les élèves d’âges primaires et secondaires dans les centres communautaires et écoles du quartier. Dans le cadre de ce programme, les jeunes participants préparent des repas et collations santé, apprennent à explorer le système alimentaire pour ainsi devenir des consommateurs avertis. 

À travers nos Ateliers de cuisine communautaires, les familles et adultes ont l’occasion de se retrouver dans différents espaces communautaires du quartier pour cuisiner et partager un repas, centré autour de l’appréciation culturelle, des connaissances nutritionnelles et le renforcement de la communauté. 

Principales responsabilités:

• Animation des ateliers d’éducation alimentaire : 2 à 5 ateliers par semaine;
• Transmission de connaissances culinaires et nutritionnelles et sur les systèmes alimentaires aux participants des ateliers;
• Assurer un environnement sécuritaire, valorisant, et hygiénique pour les participants;
• Communication avec les participants et partenaires du programme;
• Contribuer au développement, à la planification et à l’évaluation des ateliers et du programme;
• Participer aux réunions d’équipe et faciliter la collaboration au sein de l’équipe;
• Animation de la fête de fin de session des ateliers Boîte à lunch (à confirmer).

Qualifications:

• Bilinguisme français/anglais avec capacité d’animer confortablement dans les deux langues;
• Expérience en animation auprès des jeunes;
• Capacité à interagir positivement avec des jeunes de différents milieux sociaux et économiques;
• Compréhension des défis des familles immigrantes, valorisation des connaissances culturelles;
• Fondation en saine alimentation et nutrition;
• Confiance en cuisine et capacité à transmettre les connaissances aux participants;
• Forte capacité de travailler en équipe et expérience en milieux communautaires;
• Connaissance de la communauté de Notre-Dame-de-Grâce un atout;
• Attestation de premiers soins et/ou certification MAPAQ (manipulateur d’aliments) un atout; 
• Capacité de soulever de lourdes charges (10kg/ 22lbs) et de travailler sur ses pieds pendant de longues heures sont des atouts;
• Esprit d’initiative et créativité encouragé, ainsi qu’une passion pour la cuisine et pour la nourriture!

Horaire

Un horaire hebdomadaire sera fixé pour chaque animateur.trice. Nous comblons plusieurs positions à temps partiel avec des horaires et des heures hebdomadaires variées (entre 6 et 20 heures par semaine). Les animateurs.trices Boîte à lunch doivent être disponibles en après-midi et en soirée, ainsi que certaines fin de semaine. Nous demanderons aux candidats de préciser leurs disponibilités en déposant leurs candidatures. Inclus dans l’horaire de travail, l’animateur.trice devra faire de la préparation (lecture) à la maison, et devra être disponible pour assister aux réunions d’équipe (aux 2 semaines), à deux réunions de formation en début de session, à la fête finale des ateliers, et à la réunion de réflection en fin de session.

Conditions du contrat:

• Contrat de 15 semaines, du  5 février  au 17 mai , 2024;
• Possibilité de renouvellement pour l’automne 2024; 
• Salaire : $18.00 par heure.
