The Opportunity:
- Be involved in the establishment of the new “Locals” – key mental health system transformation.
- Provide positive person centred and wellbeing supports for people experiencing mental ill health and emotional distress in conjunction with substance use disorders
- Link people to social and community services to improve health and wellbeing.
- Be a part of a dynamic multi-agency and multi-disciplinary team delivering integrated service responses.
About the Service
The Adult and Older Adult Mental Health and Wellbeing services, otherwise known as “Locals”, are a key recommendation from Victoria’s Royal Commission into the mental health service system. As such, the Locals are a key feature of the current system transformation.
The Locals will act as a front door to the mental health service system and will provide a continuum of care and support including clinical interventions, wellbeing supports, and therapeutic support through an integrated mental health and alcohol and other drug framework approach.
Mind Australia is the lead agency in a consortium for the Melton Local which comprises of IPC Health, Western Health, and Thorne Harbour Health. Our shared vision is a Local that delivers integrated support that puts the person accessing the service at the very centre of their treatment, support and care coordination using a range of evidence informed approaches. The consortium is committed to embedding lived and living experience and expertise within all aspects of the service including program design and evaluation, leadership, service delivery and governance.
The Position
The AOD clinician working at the Melton local with provide a recovery orientated approach to care to achieve positive changes to client outcomes. The AOD Clinician will utilise a trauma informed person centred, integrative approach to ensure clients are provided the required support in a compassionate, considerate manner.
You will make a difference by
- Provide specialised AOD counselling and therapeutic support utilising evidence informed interventions and modalities.
- Deliver AOD interventions to consumers who present with a dual diagnosis
- Have specialist skills in trauma informed care and provide care coordination and engagement with clients presenting with complex needs and presentations.
- Have relevant clinical experience and qualifications to support their work.
- Supporting inclusive and recovery focused interventions
- Being unwaveringly committed to consumer participation, clinical best practice, and the delivery of high-quality care that is safe, effective, and always person-centred.
- Fostering effective and collaborative working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including representatives of funding bodies, Lead agency Mind, and other Melton Local partners
To succeed, you will need.
- A tertiary qualification and 2 years’ experience in the following fields: nursing, social work, allied health, counselling, or community development.
- Excellent motivational interviewing and holistic wellbeing assessment skills.
- Proven experience empowering adults in a planned and structured way to improve health and wellbeing outcomes particularly with diverse and disadvantaged communities.
- Special interest in recovery models of care for clients presenting with co-occurring substance use disorder and mental health
- Understanding in Person centred, trauma informed approaches to care
- A current Victorian driver’s licence
- 4 core competencies in AOD or willingness to complete within the first 18months of employment
