About this opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Clinician to join our residential program in Lower Plenty and support our LGBTIQ+ residents in their journey.

You will be responsible in providing specialist and culturally safe LGBTIQ+ inclusive and responsive support as part of the Therapeutic Community Clinical Team. You will also contribute to interventions which address underlying AOD and other issues for LGBTIQ+ residents through case management, administration, group facilitation and engagement.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Support Clinical Team members in their resident understanding and decision making from a LGBTIQ+ culturally safe and intersectional viewpoint.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of treatment and other activities through a LGBTIQ+ lens.
  • Facilitate therapy groups and individual counselling sessions.
  • Deliver LGBTIQ+ therapy and education groups.
  • Support the staff and senior residents during admission of LGBTIQ+ residents.
  • Coordinate LGBTIQ+ cultural events and outings.
  • Develop relationships with the LGBTIQ+ community services sector.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and implementation of quality assurance systems and processes including the Rainbow Tick accreditation and “Community of Community” reviews.

A week in the role

If you were here last week, you would have:

  • Facilitated group therapy for residents.
  • Participated in clinical conversations to support the recovery and behavioural change for LGBTQI+ residents.
  • Worked alongside senior residents and staff to support junior residents new to the Therapeutic Community.
  • Attended a community day with all residents and staff and participated in group walk/run/roll and picnic in the park.
  • Enjoyed a delicious lunch with the wider team and residents, prepared by the kitchen team.

Key Selection Criteria

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Clinician to ensure a culturally safe environment and enhance engagement with our LGBTIQ+ staff, volunteers and residents.

To be successful in this role, you must meet the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Tertiary qualification with on years’ experience, and/or an Associate Diploma in Alcohol & Other Drugs, Mental Health, or Allied Health with relevant experience.
  • Completion of the AOD Skill Set for Health Professionals (or commitment to obtain one of these within 12 months of employment). Staff will be fully supported in obtaining the skillset. * (Refer Appendix A)
  • Self- identified as belonging to one of the LGBTIQ+ communities.
  • Excellent case management skills and the ability to work with complex clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage clients in dialogue and develop a therapeutic relationship.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, be open to giving and receiving feedback, and recognise and resolve interpersonal conflict.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of high-quality therapeutic service delivery, coupled with a strong theoretical and evidence-based practice in the principles of recovery, and a commitment to community education and health promotion.
  • High-level stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships and communicate with a wide variety of audiences.
  • Well-developed capacity to continuously review and make responsive changes where needed to ensure a high standard of service delivery.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance competing demands and priorities work effectively.

*Appendix A (AOD Competencies)

OHV requires staff in clinical positions to have the following competencies (or their equivalent). Where people do not already have these competencies, OHV will invest in the staff’s professional development by providing them through our registered training organisation (RTO).
The competencies required in the first 12 months of employment are:

  • CHCAOD001 – Work in an alcohol and other drugs context
  • CHCAOD004 – Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD006 – Provide interventions for people with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCAOD009 – Develop and review individual alcohol and other drugs treatment plans

In line with OHV’s Mandatory Vaccination Policy, all Odyssey House Victoria staff are required to hold Fully Vaccinated (Boosted) status, having also received the Booster Vaccination. Evidence of this minimum of three (3) COVID-19 vaccinations will be requested during the onboarding process and offers will be rescinded where such evidence cannot be provided.

All Odyssey House Victoria sites are smoke free for all employees.
