About the role

The Peer Support Worker – Medication Support & Recovery Service (MSRS) will provide practical and emotional support for clients and their families whose lives are significantly impacted as a result of pharmaceutical/medication misuses. This role provides the opportunity to share your experiences of recovery or role as a carer of someone with pharmaceutical/medication concerns and empower participants, their families, clinicians and the community to ultimately improve outcomes for clients and families/loved ones engaged in the MSRS. The role is a combination of individual and group work.

What you will be doing

  • Use your lived experience of mental illness/Alcohol and other drug use and recovery to support clients
  • Provide a combination of individual (one-to-one) and group supports
  • Develop and facilitate peer support groups
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to provide ‘wrap around care’ for complex clients

What you will bring

Key Selection Criteria

  • A lived experience of mental illness/Alcohol and other drug use and recovery
  • Training or qualifications in Peer Work or Peer Support
  • Experience working from a Peer Support or Intentional Peer Support model to support clients with mental health concerns
  • Experience in speaking at or delivering community education or community engagement events
  • Experience and confidence to co-facilitate a peer support group, identify any risk issues and seek support from clinical staff where required

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management and prioritisation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software applications
