The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, at UT Health San Antonio is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for an academic faculty position at the rank of Specialist. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be engaged in diverse clinical and academic practice, including an active Lung Transplant Program. The qualified candidate must have completed, or is within 6 months of graduation, from an accredited training program in physician assistant studies or nurse practitioner curriculum, be eligible or currently maintain a Texas license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant, applicable board-certification, and DEA certification.
The major criteria for appointment for clinical faculty are excellence in clinical care, scholarly activity, and service in the area the individual is expected to fulfill. The selected candidate will join a department of seven (7) faculty of adult cardiac and thoracic surgeons. Besides the surgeons, the selected candidate will work with three (3) nurse practitioners, residents, clinic nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff. The selected candidate will work in clinics located at University Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and UT Health San Antonio’s Medical Arts and Research Center, all located in the Medical Center. A new UT Health San Antonio multi-specialty research hospital is scheduled to open in December 2024 and will be adjacent to the UT Health School of Dentistry in the Medical Center.
