JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description

Your responsibilities

The ATLAS Experiment at the LHC currently constructs a new inner tracking system (ITk) for its future research at the High-Luminosity LHC. At the center of the next tracker the ITk Pixel detector will provide unprecedented radiation hardness and speed for the reconstruction of charged tracks produced in p-p collisions. For the tracker upgrade the CERN ADE group is committed to contribute over the next years to the construction of the ITk pixel detector including the assembly and evaluation of multi-module structures and their integration in the ITk Pixel Outer Barrel Detector.

The selected candidate will play an active role in the preparation, installation and commissioning of the test setups for reception of loaded local supports before integration and the installation and commissioning of the setups for testing during integration in laboratory for inclined unit integration and of the ITk Pixel Outer Barrel in SR1. Her/his responsibilities will include the electrical test and evaluation of results during reception of loaded local supports of the Outer Barrel and contribute to multi-module operation, testing and evaluation of detector segments during surface integration of the Outer Barrel.

Moreover, handling of data and reporting of results including the ITk production database at these stages of the detector construction will be part of her/his tasks. This will also include the interface and usage of the databases. She/he will also regularly present results internally and to the ITk Pixel community. In addition, she/he will have the opportunity to be involved in R&D of future detector material.

  • Knowledge in evaluation of properties and data of silicon detector modules.
  • Rigorous and organized approach to work, producing quality results at first attempt.
  • Working well in multi-disciplinary teams and an international collaboration, including physicists, engineers and technicians and presenting work to collaborators.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • You have a professional background in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
    • a Master’s degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
    • or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

We are on a Quest. A Journey into discovery like no other. Bring your expertise to our unique work and develop your knowledge and skills at pace. Join world-class subject matter experts on unique projects, in a Quest for greater knowledge and deeper understanding.

Begin your CERN Quest. Take Part!

Diversity has been an integral part of CERN’s mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization. Employing a diverse workforce is central to our success.
