On campus we have a state-of-the-art sports centre with pool, shops, places to eat and drink, our own art gallery, museum and botanical gardens.Find out more about theApprentice contextWorking within the Research Programmes and Infrastructure Team (RPI) which is part of the Research Office (RO) at the College of Medical and Dental Sciences (MDS). The RPI provide both administrative and project management support to a portfolio of health-related research projects and programmes of work across the University.Apprenticeship summaryThe apprentice will learn to provide administrative support across the Research Programmes and Infrastructure Team (RPI) teamworking to support the team’s tasks, but also learning to act on their own initiative for routine activities. The apprentice may also be given the opportunity to work in different areas of the department or wider University.Main duties the apprentice will learn

  • Provide the first point of contact for a broad range of queries, most of which are routine. You will need to resolve the majority of queries from your thorough knowledge of the department, processes and systems.
  • Ensure that all record keeping is up to date and accurate.
  • Carry out a range of administrative tasks, which will include using the Microsoft suite of programmes such as Word, Outlook, and Excel. This will include word processing a variety of documentation.
  • You may be involved in organising the distribution of large quantities of information to appropriate audience, or in tasks within your immediate work area.
  • Gathering and updating the content and information on various platforms, such as Websites and SharePoint sites.
  • Designing posters and other marketing/promotional materials.
  • Editing media such as videos from recorded talks from research presentations.
  • Managing social media channels, such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter (x), YouTube.
  • Coordinate diaries of immediate team, booking and attending meetings and taking notes as required.
  • Supporting events and other activities.
  • Undertaking duties such as filing, photocopying, scanning etc.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 4 or above.
  • An interest in research and healthcare
  • A demonstrable interest in pursuing an administrative career
  • A good understanding of or experience working in a similar environment or undertaking similar activities
  • Able to use Microsoft packages
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is essential
  • Excellent team working and ability to work effectively with others
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential
  • A customer focussed approach
  • An ability to organise your own workload is required
  • Ability to learn and understand how diversity considerations affect own area (e.g., dietary requirements/dress code).
