Aquaculture center upgrade – Civil Works

The Machui Aqua-Culture Centre in Tanga under the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries was established in the financial year 2013/14, the aim was to start producing seeds of sea fish, crabs, and sea cucumbers and serve through all coastal regions in Tanzania. Other aquatic life development activities are managed by the centre such as fish farming, seaweed farming, crab breeding, sea cucumber farming, artemia production in salt mines. The centre to date has provided fish farming education in all districts of Tanga region only. There existing strategies and plans are to improve the hatchery facility to be able to produce seeds as well as to provide education to the coastal community women and youth groups that grow seaweed and sea cucumber.
