**Job Description**

**AECOM** is actively seeking an **Archaeologist III** for immediate, full-time employment within our Cultural Resources practice in Portland, Oregon. The Archaeologist is a core member of the Cultural Resources Program in the Pacific Northwest, with responsibility for successfully executing projects and leading all aspects of project implementation. This is a regular, full-time, salaried position. The Archaeologist may serve as a Field Director or Principal Investigator, based on work experience and education.

**The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:**

+ Being a part of the cultural resources team supporting the decommissioning of the Lower Klamath Project, a precedent setting dam removal and salmon habitat restoration project on the Klamath River.

+ Managing projects with small- to large-scale field efforts (survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring) and intensive schedules.

+ Managing and executing archival research, technical report writing, state and federal archaeological permitting, data collection and compilation, and/or GIS mapping.

+ Operating as primary author or senior reviewer, as appropriate.

+ Managing large-scale compliance monitoring projects requiring adherence to permit conditions.

+ Works under supervision of senior staff but is capable of completing all but the most complex tasks with minimal supervision.

+ Supervising personnel in the field, office, and laboratory, as needed.

+ Liaising and developing positive relationships with clients and other stakeholders.

+ Knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework, including the National Environmental Policy Act, National Historic Preservation Act, as well as other state and local regulations protecting cultural resources.

+ Organizing data in an efficient and clear manner.

+ Handling multiple tasks and communicating priorities to manager.

+ Operating as primary point of contact for clients and resource agencies on projects, as needed

+ Performing client management duties such as recurring status meetings, milestone check ins, and day-to-day interfacing.

+ Working independently and as part of a team.

+ Flexibility and willingness to support multiple projects, including travel.

**Qualifications**

**Minimum Requirements:**

+ BA/BS Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related.

+ 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

+ Must be willing to travel and conduct fieldwork throughout the Pacific Northwest.

+ Current valid drivers license and U.S. government issued identification.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

+ Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, History, or a closely related.

+ Meets the Secretary of Interiors professional qualification standards in Archaeology.

+ Relevant field experience in the Pacific Northwest.

+ Experience with implementing Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

+ A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the field or in the office.

+ Advanced knowledge in one or more specialty scientific areas (e.g., lithic or faunal analysis; osteology; historical archaeology)

+ Demonstration of excellent technical writing skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.

+ Experience leading tribal consultation and familiarity with tribal representatives for the Pacific Northwest and Northern California.

+ Experience supervising large crews and/or multiple crews on a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.

+ Proficiency in GPS data collection, as well as ArcGIS and other geospatial software.

+ Experience working with interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.

+ Proven ability to lead proposals and win work.

+ Knowledge of regional and local cultural resources regulations.

**Additional Information**

+ Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required.

+ Offered rate of compensation (Oregon locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $65,000.00 – $84,000.00.
