The Deputy Director of Conservation works closely with the State Director (SD) and Chapter’s leadership team to manage chapter affairs, respond to opportunities and challenges, and serve as a proxy in professional settings where designated by the SD.  The position oversees the conservation and government relations departments comprised of more than 15 staff, including seven (7) direct reports, and a $3-M multi-program budget.  The Deputy Director for Conservation sits on the Leadership Team in Arkansas. 

The Deputy Director for Conservation oversees all aspects of conservation, science, stewardship and government relations for The Nature Conservancy in Arkansas and plays an active role in establishing and managing the conservation priorities that help maximize Arkansas and the Great Plains Division’s collective contributions to realizing the Conservancy’s 2030 goals.  Conservation work in Arkansas is connected to five conservation strategies:

  • Living with Fire
  • Freshwater & Regenerative Agriculture
  • Delta
  • Keeping Forest as Forests
  • People in Nature

The Deputy Director for Conservation sets and meets strategic conservation goals and objectives in AR and assists the Great Plains Division.  They serve as a resource to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations, and the academic community.  They persuasively convey the mission of TNC to diverse groups including key legislators, government officials and others who are critical to the Conservancy’s overall public funding strategies.  Frequent domestic travel and evening and weekend hours will be required. This role may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.  The Deputy Director will work from TNC’s Little Rock office.
