The Latino Heritage Internship Program seeks to engage ethnically and racially diverse young professionals in natural resource careers.

Position Description

Rocky Mountain National Park (ROMO) is seeking an intern passionate about educating visitors on environmental stewardship and the responsible recreation of public lands. This position focuses on developing and delivering accessible art programs to park visitors and the surrounding community.

The intern will engage with diverse audiences, primarily youth and family visitors from all backgrounds, and design learning experiences that promote mental and physical health, wellness, and connection to nature through art. These programs will educate visitors and facilitate meaningful connections between them and the park’s resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the park’s Partnerships & Intern Engagement (PIE) Program coordinator with Estes Valley Investment in Childhood Success (EVICS) Family Resource Center programs and other outreach events.
  • Support the Artist in Residence Program Coordinator by providing supplemental art programming with accessible tools and assisting resident artists as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the Interpretation team on the East Side of Rocky Mountain National Park, working alongside interpretive rangers, education rangers, and park volunteers at visitor centers, Junior Ranger Headquarters, and other public spaces.
  • Spend the first two weeks in training with seasonal interpretation and education park rangers to learn about interpretation, environmental education, outreach, the National Park Service mission, park resources, teamwork, visitor services, and Relevancy, Diversity, and Inclusion (RDI) principles.
  • Provide orientation, information, and education in both formal and informal settings.
  • Design, develop, and facilitate audience-centered art programs for public engagement within and outside the park.

Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority (PLC)
The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position. The applicant must apply to a PLC-eligible position advertised on USAJobs.gov and selected off a non-competitive certificate of eligibility.
