Job Summary

The Art and Child Instructor is responsible for preparing and delivering art skills groups for women and supporting with programming for children.  These groups will be a place for women to socialize, learn an art skill and increase their creative expression while children are provided with safe space according to child safeguarding policies.  The Art & Child Instructor will work with a MHPSS staff to facilitate these skills groups and provide safe spaces for women and children.

 

Job Duties:

1- Serve staff and beneficiaries with creativity, kindness, and generosity

2- Complete administrative tasks for the mental health team

3- Communicate with MHPSS staff if they think beneficiary needs referral or additional supports

4- Facilitate a safe and child-friendly atmosphere where children ages 6-11 can engage in educational and recreational activities according to the provided curriculum.

5- Modify activities to cater to the needs of children of different ages, genders, and abilities.

6- Work with Senior PSS Officer to review weekly lesson plans and assist with curriculum development.

7- Set clear responsibilities for the assistant facilitator to support classroom activities and preparation.

8- Complete set-up and clean-up of classroom space before and after each session.

9- Communicate with each child’s designated guardian on a regular basis regarding their behavior, progress, or any issues and concerns.

10- Keep record of children’s attendance and follow up on all absences within 48 hours.

11- Communicate all materials and supplies needed to the Senior PSS officer and assist with purchases according to SPI Finance and Procurement Policies.

12- Collaborate with project team to advertise and recruit participants from surrounding community.

13- Follow child safeguarding policies and report all concerns regarding a child or their family to the Senior PSS Officer in a timely manner. 

14- Submit timely and accurate activity reports to the Senior PSS Officer and complete monitoring and evaluation tasks to assess project impact.

15- Attend and contribute to regular team meetings.

16- Accompany MHPSS team on home visits to provide child programming or teach on art intervention to beneficiaries

Education / Experience Needed

Bachelor’s Degree in Education (preferred) or 1-3 years equivalent experience teaching and/or working with children.

Desire to work with children

Must have proven artistic ability.  Also needs experience dealing directly with beneficiaries, basic familiarity with MHPSS work and understanding about the importance of beneficiary confidentiality.
