Position Information The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applications for the position of Clinical Education Director/Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Master of Physician Assistant Studies Program. This is a full-time, tenure-track, 12-month position. The position will report to the Program Director and will collaborate with other PA faculty, and staff to support the program’s mission and ensure compliance with ARC-PA accreditation standards.
The Clinical Education Director will work closely with the Program Director to provide effective leadership and guidance to faculty and staff members involved in the clinical phase of the program. The Clinical Education Director will have oversight of clinical site recruitment, clinical site visits, and clinical site evaluations. The program is dedicated to allotting time and resources for the professional development of all faculty and staff. Salary and rank for the position is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
This will be a 1 FTE (5 days per week) faculty position. This can be a hybrid position; however, in person attendance is preferred. This will require on campus/in-person attendance for call back days (every 5 weeks for 2-4 days), OSCE/practicum days, mandatory meetings/staff events, interview days, lectures as needed, or other activities as needed to meet the needs of the program. This will require visiting sites on the Eastern Shore, sites in DC, MD, VA, and potentially other sites within the United States.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and other faculty members to oversee the design and implementation of the clinical curriculum in accordance with the ARC-PA accreditation standards.
  • Participate in the development and assessment of the clinical year curriculum.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating the Student Handbook on an annual basis.
  • Manage the clinical team to include the non-PA clinical coordinator and other faculty and staff to provide all PA students with SCPE’s and to ensure smooth delivery of all clinical year courses.
  • Participate in the assessment of the quality of clinical training sites, experiences, and preceptors.
  • Participate in and implement monthly end of rotation activities during the clinical phase of the program including but not limited to call back days.
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and grading OSCE’s for students.
  • Serve as the course director/instructor and assist with all clinical year courses which will require course development, course review, syllabi review, course assessments, remediations; and creation, implementation, oversight, and assistance with all assignments.
  • Prepare the end of rotation examinations and prepare students for the PANCE examination.
  • Work with faculty and staff to complete a clinical gap analysis and create lectures or activities for students based upon findings.
  • Work with Didactic Education Director to create a smooth transition for students into the clinical year including identifying knowledge deficiencies during the didactic year that should be addressed during the clinical year.
  • Assist the didactic staff with grading practicums and lectures as needed.
  • Serve as a student advisor and mentor.
  • Participate in clinical year meetings monthly or more frequently as needed. · Participate in CRC, Departmental, and PPC meetings.
  • Assist in recruitment, selection of applicants for admission, review of applications, conduction of interviews, and selection of students for admission.
  • Complete all ARC-PA assignments and attend all ARC-PA training sessions and site visits.
  • Participate in the annual retreat.
  • Participate in scholarly activities including research and active participation in state or national organizations and conferences.
  • Participate in program, School, University committees, and attend related functions.
  • Maintain clinical competency and knowledge of current best practices within the profession.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned including but not limited to proctoring exams and course directing/instructing courses during the didactic year.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited program.
  • Experience with and knowledge of ARC-PA accreditation standards. 
  • Current NCCPA certification.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a physician assistant in the State of Maryland.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of teaching experience in higher education setting. 
  • Previous faculty experience in a PA Program.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Excellent communication skills to include written communication skills; and interpersonal skills.
Certifications/Registrations
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant in the State of Maryland.
  • Current NCCPA certification
