Position Description
The Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at McGill University is currently inviting applications for a full-time clinician-scientist position as a member of the Contract Academic Staff at the Assistant or Associate Professor (Clinical) level. The professorial rank will be according to the candidate’s qualifications and experience. This will be a three-year, renewable appointment and does not offer eligibility for tenure.
The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), a teaching hospital for McGill and the McGill Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences. The incumbent must demonstrate aptitude and interest in providing surgical and medical care in general ophthalmology, and demonstrate capabilities in retinopathies, ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, and/or ocular oncology. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to teaching and service within the department.
Job Duties
The successful applicant will contribute to a strong interdisciplinary clinical and basic research program and will be expected to engage in all aspects of a university-affiliated ophthalmology department (i.e., clinical duties, education, and research). Successful candidates will provide excellent clinical teaching and supervision to medical students, residents, and clinical fellows. Protected research time and laboratory resources within the MUHC will be available to candidates with exceptional research potential. The position is 60-70: 40-30% research-clinical.
Clinical resources, allocation of operating time, and infrastructure support will be commensurate with needs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Applicants must hold or be eligible for licensure as an ophthalmologist in the province of Quebec;
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in all areas;
- Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
Assets
- Training beyond a residency in ophthalmology (e.g., subspecialty fellowship and/or advanced degree(s) such as a MPH, or the equivalent;
- Clinician-scientists with MD/PhD (or equivalent research-intensive training) are strongly encouraged to apply
