Position description

The Elliott School is seeking an Assistant Dean of Executive Education and Special Initiatives, a faculty position. The successful candidate will be someone who can expand and envision non-traditional education offerings, while supporting and overseeing the School’s existing executive education, special initiatives, and online programs. The Assistant Dean for Executive Education and Special Initiatives will be appointed as a non-tenure track professor at the rank of assistant/associate professor of international affairs, depending on experience and seniority. The position will carry a 1-1 teaching load, with the successful candidate teaching in areas of their expertise.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

The Assistant Dean of Executive Education and Special Initiatives will join a dynamic team in the Dean’s suite and work in close collaboration with the Assistant Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies to advance the mission of the School. The successful candidate will manage a small team of staff members and will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.

The Elliott School is home to robust national security training programs such as the National Security Studies Program, summer programming like the U.S. Foreign Policy courseshort term abroad programsglobal capstone courses, certificate programs, and new credentialing initiatives. The Assistant Dean will be responsible for overseeing the curriculum as well as staffing of these initiatives, and will seek to expand into new growth areas. Working closely with the Director of Graduate Admissions, the Assistant Dean also will be responsible for student recruitment into the non-traditional offerings, and building institutional relationships and partnerships both within and external to the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications: a graduate degree in international affairs or its relevant fields (political science, history, economics, anthropology, geography); experience in international affairs as evidenced by a record of college-level teaching, published research, or professional employment in international affairs; and expertise and experience in online program design/delivery, and in non-traditional and/or executive education.
