Texas A&M University – Texarkana has launched the Better East Texas initiative, an educational campaign to address the needs of this historically underserved region. To support this initiative, we are inviting applications for the Assistant or Associate Professor & MSW Program Director position. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a new academic program intended to provide a positive impact on East Texas. With funding from the 86th Texas Legislature, Texas A&M University – Texarkana is hoping to attract a cadre of excellent faculty who will contribute to the best possible future for our service region.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Work alongside the Department/College/University leadership to grow and lead the social work program
  • Completing the initial accreditation for the Master of Social Work program.
  • Program administration and continuous programmatic review and assessment to ensure the program remains in compliance with CSWE standards.
  • Building a team spirit among program and supporting faculty teaching within the MSW program.
  • Teaching up to six (6) SCH per semester and maintaining appropriate scholarly engagement.
  • Work with leadership team to initiate, plan, and execute adjunct faculty training, support, and evaluation
  • Recruit, maintain, and monitor MSW enrollment; meet with prospective MSW students
  • Plan and conduct MSW information sessions and student orientations
  • Serve as faculty advisor for MSW students
  • Make program policies available to MSW students through a current MSW Student Handbook
  • Maintain curricular documents related to MSW program in collaboration with appropriate academic support units, department, and college (catalog, manual, handbook, website, brochures)
  • Initiate, plan, and implement programming and curriculum for students to enhance the learning environment and provide opportunities for feedback
  • Manage academic actions (e.g., review disposition forms, conduct student reviews, process grade appeals and special petitions; monitor and consider student modality changes)
  • Maintain effective administrative relationships with central institutional, administrative, advisement, admissions, and registrar officers
  • Represent MSW program to the University
  • Participate in faculty meetings, university governance, professional and public service
  • Serve on departmental and college committees
  • Oversee the curricular content of the program/Assist with annual program/curriculum review/assessment/accreditation
  • Assist Department Chair with scheduling for the program
  • Coordinate program adjunct faculty
  • Assist with gathering program budget requests for Department Chairs
  • Prepare faculty forms as needed to initiate catalog or course additions, changes, or deletions for program
  • Chair or serve on search committees for new program faculty
  • Maintain program memberships or affiliations with relevant professional associations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Minimum Qualifications: Assistant Professor

  • Earned DSW or Ph.D. in social work, social welfare, or closely related field and a master’s degree in social work from CSWE accredited institutions,  
  • At least two years of post-master’s social work practice experience 
  • At least two years teaching experience in a social work program 
  • Evidence of scholarship and research agenda 
     

Minimum Qualifications: Associate Professor

  • Earned DSW or Ph.D. in social work, social welfare, or closely related field and a master’s degree in social work from CSWE accredited institutions,  
  • At least two years of post-master’s social work practice experience 
  • At least four years teaching experience in a social work program with a record of teaching excellence.
  • Evidence of an ongoing scholarship and research agenda with a minimum of two (2) peer-reviewed publications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates that are licensed, or license-eligible, as a social worker in Texas, Arkansas, and/or Louisiana.  
  • Evidence of established and ongoing scholarship and research agenda
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated commitment to or interest in program develop and curriculum development 
  • Experience working with CSWE accreditation 
  • Clinical experience working with children, trauma, or addictions 

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
