Job Summary:
Reporting to the Head Field Hockey Coach, the Assistant Coach assists in developing a Division I competitive Field Hockey program. The primary function of the Assistant Coach will be to teach student-athletes the sport of field Hockey. The Assistant Coach will evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes to Temple University whose athletic skills would allow the program to be highly competitive and whose academic abilities make such student-athletes excellent candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation from Temple University.
The Assistant Field Hockey Coach supports the Head Coach by providing leadership and integrity to the program set forth by the Head Coach, which includes, but is not limited to, creating, planning, organizing, motivating, communicating, and controlling aspects relative to recruiting, practices, competitions, student-athletes, volunteer coaches and related booster clubs. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach is expected to conduct themselves in a manner representative of the University, the Department, and the sport both on and off the field of competition. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach is expected to be knowledgeable about and comply with the NCAA regulatory policy governing their sport and NCAA and conference policies governing recruiting, eligibility, ethical standards, playing seasons, and extra benefits. Evidence of the Assistant Field Hockey Coach’s knowledge of rules and policy will be in the Departmental expectation that the Assistant Field Hockey Coach successfully complete the annually administered NCAA Coaches Exam. The Assistant Field Hockey Coach performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions of Position:
- The execution of team practices is consistent with the outline of the Head Field Hockey Coach.
- Attendance and participation at Departmental and Compliance Meetings as scheduled.
- Coordination of team travel logistics and itinerary with Departmental personnel as necessary, as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Represent the University in compliance with NCAA policy in recruiting student-athletes, as assigned by the Head Coach.
- Represent the University in compliance with NCAA policy and consistent Departmental resources in recommending athletic scholarships to prospective student-athletes through the Head Coach.
- Development and allocation of budget in conjunction with the Head Coach.
- Assist with fundraising toward the achievement of program goals.
- Assist with scheduling of opponents.
- Facility and equipment maintenance in collaboration with the appropriate equipment manager.
- Make recommendations for purchases of athletic equipment.
- Coordinates with Athletic Training for the maintenance and rehabilitation of student-athletes.
- Supports Strength and Conditioning training in collaboration with an assigned strength coach.
- All other responsibilities the Head Coach assigns are consistent with the Mission of the Department.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of previous Field Hockey experience as a collegiate coach and/or collegiate student-athlete. Experience administering Division I NCAA rules. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred:
- NCAA Division I experience.
- Demonstrated experience developing and allocating a budget.
- Demonstrated experience fundraising towards the achievement of program goals.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Software, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to assist with budgeting, scheduling, meal planning, coaching, recruiting, scouting, purchasing, and caring for equipment.
- Ability to implement policies and guidelines for all Field Hockey personnel and student-athletes.
- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, strong leadership, and team-building skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize diverse tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to work a highly variable schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Preferred:
