Position Summary: Reporting directly to the Head Coach – Coed Cheer, responsibilities include, but not limited to, assisting with all aspects of game day, some coaching and recruiting aspects of the COED cheerleading program, assisting with coordinating all aspects of preparation for athletics game events and some part of competition, providing assistance to the head coach including the areas of budgeting, equipment, travel, academics, and facility scheduling, providing a healthy, inclusive and safe environment for all members of the Coed Cheer team, assisting with all fundraising efforts of the coed cheer team, and perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or requested.
Job Duties & Responsibilities: Assist the head coach in development of a sports program that challenges student-athletes to improve and succeed individually and as a team. Assistant coach is to have comprehensive and functional knowledge and experience of the sport (coed cheer) to support using independent discretion and judgement as to the methods of teaching student-athletes rules and fundamentals, position details, game strategies, etc. during planning/preparation and execution of practice sessions and competitive play of respective sport. Must ensure that all appropriate safety guidelines and standards are maintained.
Makes recommendations to head coach based on assessments of student-athletes.
Plans and coordinates promotional and fundraising activities as well as manages the teams’ public relations work, community involvement and volunteerism. Position may supervise volunteers. Performs other related duties and/or projects as assigned by Head Coach.
Develops effective recruitment strategies, recruiting and following up on prospective student athletes, researching and targeting high schools and athletic camps as sources for potential student-athletes.
Provide a healthy, inclusive and safe environment for all members of the cheer team per established team, department, and University policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Responsible for assigned administrative functions related to gameday included, but not limited to, monitoring the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies, including accountability for expense control and administration of the sport’s budget.
Performs other related duties and/or projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, one or more years of COED college cheer instruction experience or three years high school/private cheer instruction. CPR/First Aid certified. Safety Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, two or more years of COED college cheer instruction experience or five years high school/private cheer instruction. Demonstrates strong leadership, supervisory, and organizational skills. Ability to work collaboratively as well as establish and maintain effective relationships with the community, faculty, students, staff and alumni. Experience working with budgets and financial planning.
