Assistant Compliance Officer

MedTech Europe

Brussels, Belgium

Reports to: CVS Compliance Officer

Background

With the objective to comply with important and ever more demanding healthcare regulations, MedTech Europe’s Member companies, in collaboration with EFPIA, have recognised the need for establishing processes to maintain and promote their reputation for integrity and responsibility, for ethical behavior, to satisfy the expectations of governments and of other stakeholders. A focus of attention is the interactions with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs). MedTech Europe and EFPIA support their respective Members by providing guidance and processes on how to conduct their business responsibly.

In accordance with their respective codes of ethical practice, MedTech Europe’s and EFPIA’s corporate Members are allowed to sponsor third-party educational conferences such as medical congresses, symposia, seminars, training courses and therapy-orientated training in order to promote scientific knowledge, medical advancement and assist in the delivery of effective healthcare by HCPs (e.g. physicians, nurses). In doing so however, companies have to make sure that such educational and scientific activities are genuine and bona fide, in order to avoid sponsorships which could be construed as inappropriate value transfers and/or inappropriate and illegal financial ties between industry and HCPs.

In collaboration with the MedTech Europe and the EFPIA organizations and with the CVS Compliance Officer and the MedTech Europe’s Compliance Panel, the Assistant Compliance Officer has the responsibility to manage a process (called the CVS) to assess compliance of envisaged sponsorships of educational activities by Medtech and EFPIA members in conformity with the relevant Medtech and EFPIA Codes.

Main Responsibilities

The Assistant Compliance Officer shall be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Operate the MedTech Europe CVS (Conference Vetting System) and EFPIA’s e4ethics processes to assess educational conferences on their compliance with MedTech Europe’s and EFPIA’s ethical standards set out in the MedTech Europe Code of Ethical Practice and the EFPIA Healthcare Professionals Code of Practice;
  • Serve as the point of contact for handling CVS submissions made under the MedTech Europe Conference Vetting System and EFPIA’s e4ethics;
  • Escalate submissions for advice, decision and/or appeal as deemed necessary to the Compliance Officer, and/or the Compliance Panel;
  • Be responsible for all tasks associated with running and maintaining the Conference Vetting System and e4ethics including but not limited to online data entry and integrity, quality control of the entered data and communication with submitters and other stakeholders;
  • Maintain integrity and documentation of the two systems through active management of all records;
  • Support the implementation of the new CVS system upgrade.

The foregoing list is indicative and subject to reasonable modification and/or additions from time to time.
