Assistant Data and GIS Officer

Job Purpose

To work in the Ecology Team to process, analyse and disseminate ecological and reserve
management data.

Reporting Line

The post holder reports to the Data and GIS Officer

Line Management

This post has no line reports

Key Responsibilities

  • Process ecological data in accordance with agreed priorities
  • Help with data analysis requests from across the organisation
  • Train and support others in the use of data and GIS systems
  • Help keep GIS information held by the Trust accurate, up to date and accessible
  • Help the Ecology Team deliver ecological surveys
  • Contribute to report writing
  • Any other duties as delegated by the Chief Executive

Person Specification

Candidates without any of the optional skills listed below will receive training in order to
develop these during the first years of delivering the post.

Essential skills (all required)

  • Interest in UK wildlife/conservation
  • Ability to rapidly learn new software
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good interpersonal skills and able work well as part of a team
  • Ability and willingness to demonstrate the BBOWT behaviours and values

Optional (at least 3 required to start with)

  • Advanced Excel or other spreadsheet skills
  • Data analysis
  • Some experience of scripting
  • Database management
  • Ability to use ArcGIS or other GIS software
  • Ability to deliver training
  • Ecological monitoring skills and knowledge, or in-depth knowledge of the conservation
    sector

Measurements Of Success

  • Strong team-working in the Ecology Team and across the Trust as a whole
  • Data processed efficiently and accurately, and easily available to employees
  • Relevant employees and volunteers trained and supported to access and use data
  • Input into key reports such as the five-yearly Conservation Report

This post will be DBS checked at basic level. A criminal conviction will not necessarily be a
