Job Description

 

The Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) Program in the Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) was founded in 1980. This program facilitates the outreach, recruitment, retention, and overall success of students from historically marginalized communities. The D&I program provides financial support, academic support, and professional development to students in the Gallogly College of Engineering and the Mewbourne College of Earth and Energy. One major strategic enterprise is Summer Bridge, an academic success program that annually enrolls a new cohort of 50 students that, through the admissions process, are invited or required to participate in the Gallogly College of Engineering pre-engineering summer bridge program. The Summer Bridge program focuses on supporting the personal and academic development and achievement of students in the Gallogly College of Engineering, especially women and students from historically marginalized communities.

The assistant director will work collaboratively with GCoE staff, the Dean’s office, and other departments across campus.

Responsibilites:

  • Supports the recruitment efforts for incoming first year students, especially women and students from historically marginalized communities
  • Supports the retention programming including the D&I scholarship process
  • Supports summer bridge programming. 
  • Works with the staff to create professional development events and develop and deliver program content for meetings/presentations to increase retention efforts
  • Will support year-round advising and counseling to the D&I scholars and summer bridge students.
  • Serves as an advocate for students in the academic review process and makes appropriate referrals to college and campus services as necessary.
  • May ccordinate or assist in the coordination of special projects or student related events.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

 

Job Requirements

 

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree 

    Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.

    Skills:

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office
    • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty, and staff
    • Able to do assessment and evaluation of program effectiveness, including basic data analysis
    • Resourceful, highly organized, willing to take initiative
    • Understanding of multicultural issues
    • Ability to handle cross-cultural communications with ease
    • Communication skills that include presentations, written, verbal, and interpersonal
    • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives.

    Certifications:

    • Valid driver’s license required to transport groups to events and activities as required

    Advertised Physical Requirements:

    • Must be able to climb, crouch, pull, push, reach, stand, engage in repetitive motions, grasp, move, communicate, speak, hear and see, including color, depth perception and clarity.
    • Ability to lift objects up to 30lbs.

    Departmental Preferences:

    • Initiatives focusing on historically marginalized communities, women, first-generation college students
    • Broad based understanding of working within a university setting

    Supervision: Will assist with supervision of student employees in the D&I office.
