The University of Montana invites applications for an Assistant Director for Inclusion & Community for the University Center. The Assistant Director for Inclusion & Community will support, empower, and engage students and will implement programming that creates and sustains an inclusive and supportive campus climate for all students at the University of Montana. In addition to supporting the programs and initiatives of the Branch Center, the assistant director will support and guide student groups and organizations in the Branch Center as well as other identity and advocacy-based student groups.
This position is a student-centered leader who models inclusion, community, and belonging as fundamental to fulfilling the university mission toward inclusive prosperity. This individual will be an expert resource for University of Montana students as we work to foster an inclusive and welcoming UM community. This position embodies UM’s commitment to placing all students’ success at the center of everything we do.
In addition to providing daily support and advocacy to students and student groups, this individual is responsible for the growth and activation of the Branch Center itself, as a space for all students and student groups to use, build community, and strengthen as a central space for inclusion and belonging on campus.
This role serves as a liaison for and between student groups with a focus on building community. The role is committed to problem solving and conflict resolution, and requires considerable interpersonal skill to mediate connections among those with differing viewpoints, goals and priorities. Daily interactions with members of the campus community or the general public could range from being moderately structured to unstructured drop-ins with purposes including to influence or motivate others, to obtain information, or to navigate situations and provide resources and referral information.
Reporting to the University Center Associate Director for Student Life, the individual in this position operates under general supervision expressed in terms of program goals and objectives, priorities, and deadlines. In communication and consultation as needed, the Assistant Director will provide interpretation and establish methods to perform overall program or project objectives and management of available resources.
The Assistant Director for Inclusion and Community hires, onboards, trains, and supervises professional staff member(s), graduate assistant(s), and student employees with substantial independence and decision-making authority regarding performance, pay, and employment relationship matters.
