The Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations exists to secure philanthropic support necessary for the Indiana School of Medicine to excel in its mission to teach, heal and discover. Job Summary

This position is part of the IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center’s 7-member fundraising team, which is embedded in the IU School of Medicine’s Office of Gift Development and Alumni Relations.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages community-based fundraising events program, generating more than $300,000 annually for various types of research at the cancer center.
  • Manages an annual average of 65 individual memorial gift campaigns that generate more than $150,000 in philanthropic support for the cancer center.
  • Supports the cancer center annual giving program, including direct mail solicitation, donor recognition efforts, and stewardship efforts tailored to cancer affinity areas.
  • Maintains account lists and generates giving reports for the team.
  • Works under the direction of the Director of Annual Giving Strategic Partnerships.
  • Implements the team’s annual giving program.
  • Manages a comprehensive mass stewardship strategy, including the tracking and reporting of efforts, increasing the base of annual gifts through third-party fundraisers, memorial gift campaigns.
  • Expands the annual giving program with the goal of acquiring new donors.

General Responsibilities

  • Identifies new prospects, cultivates relationships, and manages a portfolio and/or region of donors building a pipeline for solicitation.
  • Executes plans and designs campaigns to sustain and increase donations.
  • Collaborates with development colleagues university-wide to align prospects/donors’ interests with university funding needs and opportunities.
  • Maintains meaningful and consistent contact with potential donors to communicate university goals and solicit their support.
  • Introduces campus/school fundraisers to appropriate gift prospects for cultivation.
  • Documents communications, analyzes data, evaluates success and makes recommendations for change to campaign strategy.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field.

Preferred

  • 3 years in fundraising, marketing, a higher education foundation or related field.

Preferred

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficient managing/retrieving data from Microsoft Excel and across systems including donor database and other corresponding platforms.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and IU-specific databases, i.e., (Crimson, Cream, Tableau, ETA, WorkZone, ThankView, Workfront).

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$64,000 – $69,000 per year based on candidate experience, skills, and qualifications.
