Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Director of Life & Health Sciences, Student Advising and Success – Jupiter, FL.

Responsible to the Director or an Associate Director, Academic Support Services or appropriate administrator. Responsible for development and direction of one or more academic support services functions.  May function for the Director or Associate Director in his/her absence, as required.  Develops and recommends policies relating to assigned areas of responsibility.  Coordinates the development, implementation and interpretation of operating procedures.  Assists in insuring that the goals and objectives for the department, university, and SUS are communicated and achieved.  Recommends, operating budgetary needs for assigned areas of responsibility.  Responsible for liaison activities among functional area(s) and other departments.  May serve on university or SUS committees. Coordinates the completion of studies and the preparation of reports.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Advise 150 students in the Fall and Spring semesters, including use of advising tools such as EAB Navigate.

  • Teach 1 course in the Fall and Spring semesters based on an in-person, hybrid, or remote instructional modality, including use of Canvas.

  • Coordinate the Pre-Health Advising program for WHC students with FAU academic partners and healthcare partners in the community on a regular basis, supporting the exploration of a broad range of healthcare occupations and career interests.

  • Assist the Director of Student Services with student graduation audits during the final months of each fall and spring semester.

  • Serve as an advisor or reader of senior honors theses in the life/health sciences on an annual basis.

  • Assist the Director of Student Services and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs with student petitions in the life/health sciences on a regular basis.

  • Collaborate with college admissions staff and other entities on student recruitment events and activities on a periodic basis.

  • Collaborate with college administration and staff on the design and execution of retention and graduation strategies in the life/health sciences on a regular basis.

  • Assist the Dean with development and fundraising initiatives on a periodic basis.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of experience; or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of experience required.
Preferred Qualifications/Skills:
Doctoral degree in a life or health science discipline.
Experience teaching courses in higher education.
Experience advising students in higher education.
Professional experience in the healthcare sector.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
Exempt Administrative, Managerial, Professional (AMP)

Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Evenings and weekends as needed.
